Meet Jasmine Jones

We recently connected with Jasmine Jones and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Initially, I thought that my purpose was in my responsibilities to my family. Makeup started as a personal hobby, that later turned into a hustle. I had no intention of establishing a career as a makeup artist. At the time, I was a single mom, and finding work-life balance did not seem possible. Makeup became a way for me to put a few meals on the table and pay a few bills. But man, does God have a sense of humor. If you ask my family and friends, they will tell you, my résumé is lit! I’ve been everything from a patient caregiver, armed security officer, insurance claims adjuster; I’ve even worked a few years in banking, all while doing makeup on the side. I went back and forth between what I had to do, and what I loved to do for a while. 8 years later, I’m now a full time makeup artist, and I can honestly say, I love what I do! I’ve been able to some amazing things at the hands of these brushes. I’m still amazed at how that one leap of faith, changed my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

Ultimately, I believe my true purpose in makeup artistry is to use my gifts in the service of others, whether it be through the traditional beauty enhancements & services, or mentorship & fellowship with my peers and clients. It’s beyond fulfilling, and I’m truly blessed to have a career that allows me to evolve in so many aspects.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Well, I’m Jasmine Jones. Owner of JRAMUA, a luxury beauty brand, specializing in many different avenues of makeup artistry, including everyday beauty, bridal, fashion/lifestyle print and editorial, tv commercials, film projects, as well as, education. JRA has been featured on numerous publications and syndicated media outlets, including Ebony, Birmingham Times, CBS, Al.com. As an artist, I believe that if you have a gift, you should nurture it! I’m continuously learning new ways to maximize my skills & tap into my creativity. In addition to my own budding business, I also work for one of the most elite beauty & cosmetic brands in the world, which also serves as a gateway of knowledge, experience, and a front row seat to the evolution of a brand. It’s so exciting and inspiring!

On a personal note, while I definitely enjoy all things beauty, most of my free time go to

the core of my life, my family & close friends. I’m a mother of 3 beautiful children; 2 boys, 1 girl. They are the motivating force behind everything I strive to accomplish. When I’m not in mommy mode, or spending time with my loved ones, I indulge in personal self care luxuries, shopping, and traveling.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, there are many things that have been extremely impactful on the development of my career. If I had to point out a few, I’d say, creativity, originality, persistence, and a love for learning.

Creativity & originality go and hand in hand. While most of us in the beauty industry are creatives by nature, I still continue to seek daily inspiration that force me to step out of my comfort zone and grow as an artist.
In today’s world, everything is content, and creating content requires a lot of creativity and originality. Find your thing, and get active. Study your craft. Research the latest trends and find ways to incorporate those things while still remaining unique & true to self!

Remain reachable & persistent.
Because the beauty industry is constantly changing, I learned really quickly, that if you want to grow, you must be open to adapting and learning new things; it could be new styles, use of products, or new techniques. Certain areas of the beauty industry require more in depth training and education. You’re never to big to be a student. Some of your most humbling moments will stem from trial and error, but with proper training, and a love for learning, you’ll find the blessing in a lesson. Establishing yourself in your this industry takes some persistence, especially at the beginning. It takes time to build clientele, and there will be many long days of work, sometimes without pay. But, when you do what you love, the journey can be as rewarding as the end result!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking for opportunities of collaboration. I have developed a love for editorial makeup and photography, so currently, these are my ideal projects. High fashion shoots, runway, editorial magazines! It’s genre that really requires you tap into your creativity and break the bounds of beauty. I’m inspired by so many artists, models, designers, photographers; there’s too many to name. One of my ultimate goals, is to become a makeup artist for NYFW and have a editorial publication in Vogue magazine. I’ve been working on a few projects, and I’m so excited for what’s to come.
