We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I wish I could say my confidence is something I was born with, but I would be lying. It was something I earned. I earned it because I’m still here. Being a fat kid growing up bullying definitely was something I dealt with on the regular, and I felt like I couldn’t catch a break. Everytime id start loving myself and my body. Someone would point out I was fat. And id take about three steps backwards. Going back to my baggy clothes and hoodie. (I don’t know why I thought wearing a hoodie kept people from being able to tell I was fat.) But I did it was my security blanket. I didn’t even wear a pair of shorts outside the house until after I was 18. I thought everyone would be starring or talking about how I looked in my shorts. But in reality no one’s really looking nor paying any mind. And one day I honestly don’t know what happened. It’s like something clicked in my head. And I realized that all the good things about me outweighed the bad. Granted I was and am still a plus size woman. I’ve learned to love myself at all stages. Even the ones where I don’t feel so confident. Because regardless how confident I am, I am still human. And I do still have what I call “bad body image days.” I look back on it now over a decade later and wish I could have skipped all the things I went through to get to this point. But then I don’t, because it makes me appreciate the love I have for myself even more. Self love is a superpower that I won’t ever apologize for. And you shouldn’t either.💛Stepping out of my comfort zone definitely helped me learn to be more confident. Wearing things most plus size women are afraid to wear. Such as bikinis ,crop tops, short shorts, etc. NOW u can’t tell me nothing. I rock out with the fat roll out enjoying life like anyone else.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a plus size influencer who encourages humans of all sizes to love the body their in. I show them fashion is meant for all bodies by doing clothing hauls and exposing them to inclusive brands. I teach basic and unique makeup skills and looks. As well as empowering plus size parents to not miss out on experiences with their children. Simply because their afraid of being judged by society.
Currently I’m dipping my toes into modeling. It’s something I’ve been passionate about for a very long time. But honestly I was terrified at not being good at it. But I realized I already do it when I do my photos of myself. So now it’s just letting go and giving someone else the creative reins. There are so many women my size out there that are afraid to step out into the spotlight. And I want them to grab my hand and know this journey is a option regardless of the number on the scale.
I also have a content creator event coming up in August. Through xlenceplus, where I teach others how to build platforms, make content, and just make memories.
You can go to xlenceplus.com and purchase a ticket for the experience.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Consistency,passion, and compassion.
Consistency is why I have the following that I do. I look at them more than just followers but as my friends. Everyone needs a friend and someone to feel safe with. So consistently showing up. Even if it’s just on their explore page or fyp. Makes a difference. The passion I have for encouraging people to love themselves is out of this world. Making them feel seen and heard when humans my size don’t usually “win first” is encouraging. It’s like when they make a barbie that looks like you. That’s outside the cookie cutter image. And compassion, you meet so many different people that have such different backgrounds and stories. Some being similar to mine some being worse. So not judging them and truly listening and understanding means so much. Like I’m a plus size woman. There are thousands who hate what I represent and definitely let me know daily in my comments. But what they don’t know is no one aims to be fat. But I’m not gonna sit in the corner and cry about it. Because my body makes you uncomfortable, that’s a you issue not me.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always open to collaborations. Big brands, small brands, individuals no matter how big or small your platform is. Just simply put your heart into your content and be genuine. I’d love to find people to do fashion content with, travel, and trying new restaurants or experiences. You can connect with me through email. [email protected]
