We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine Twineham a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, thanks for sitting with us today to chat about topics that are relevant to so many. One of those topics is communication skills, because we live in an age where our ability to communicate effectively can be like a superpower. Can you share how you developed your ability to communicate well?
I have held a lot of leadership roles the past 4 years and with that I have learned a lot from Brené Brown on how clear communication is kind and unclear is unkind. Everyone deserves honesty and we each are held with a responsibility to help our neighbor in whatever capacity and I think clear, kind communication is one of the best ways to do that.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I always joke and say “I’m just a girl” but I’m a girl that loves genuine connections with people. Everything I do is based around making people feel loved and seen. My favorite thing is getting to watch people become more comfortable in front of the camera and just fully become themselves. My business name is J. Twineham Photography and I will travel just about anywhere! My niche is working with Nashville musicians & artists to help them get more visibility. I frequent Whiskey Jam on Mondays and Thursdays to photograph so let’s connect if you’re in the area!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Everyone has to start somewhere and I picked a lot of peoples brains around me and it helped my development so much! I think the most difficult thing when it comes to freelance work is just continuing to show up every day even if you’re not where you want to be or if you feel like you’re lacking inspiration. One thing that has helped me is getting together with a group of my freelance friends on Tuesdays and working together with them. It keeps me on track to following my goals and being able to share struggles in a safe space. Relationships are the glue and the grease!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m looking to go on tour with some more artists/musicians! Tour photography is what I lean towards most but I am willing to work with anyone. I just love meeting new people!
