We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmine Virginia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmine below.
Jasmine, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Through showing up to the practice of creating and persevering through the fear and the doubt that is always a constant voice wanting to hold me back from showing my work, I’ve been able to gain more confidence and self esteem.
In my experience self esteem come from simply doing that which you are scared to do. Often times in the artists case it’s putting your art or music, both of which are an expression of the soul, out into the public spehre where it will be judged that holds us back. Our perceived fear of the pain that will come with negative feedback or experience can hold us back for lifetimes, when we actually just have to walk through the fear.
We have to step onto the stage when we are scared to sing in front of others, we have to show people our paintings when we are worried about critical feedback of it, we have to reach out to secure opportunities to showcase our talents when we will inevitably get ‘No’s’ and ‘not right now’s’, we have to perform a bad show, we have to cry and laugh and learn from all of these experiences and release our own attachments to our desired outcome and simply observe the process of going through the motions of gaining….experience. The not so great show, or not getting sales, getting negative feedback is the process we walk on the way to our success and there is no way around it. In my experience it’s only through the doing that we are able gain confidence to do it again, and again and again not matter the perceived positive or negative outcome.
The foundation of my own slowly built confidence and self esteem ultimately comes from the hard work and learning I’ve put in because nobody can take away the hours, the work and the energy I’ve put into my craft and during the less than pleasurable experiences or seasons where it feels like progress isn’t being made, I remind myself that no energy is ever wasted and our talents, dreams and visions have been placed in our hearts for them to be expressed so our only option is to get up another day and do again with more wisdom, grace and strength from the day before.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I had a lucid dream that gave me a very clear and distinct message that it was time to start making light based art, art that brings light into peoples lives and reflects back to us our own intrinsic light nature. I followed its calling and I went from not being able to draw a stick person to creating intricate and detailed sacred geometric patterns that are filled with light reflective materials. I now know this art is meant to serve a consciousness accelerators by being meditative anchors in our space that emit healing light and frequencies. The number one comment I am blessed to receive about my art is ‘I’ve never seen anything like this’ which is the ultimate compliment when it comes to original art because I believe it demonstrates that it came from somewhere divine ready to show up in the world and I’m simply blessed to the conduit.
A always say if I didn’t follow the callings of this lucid dream I would be a hypocrite because I have been a musician and vocalist in an alternative rock back called POLARITY for almost 15 years. The general subject of my lyrics is to find our autonomy as higher beings and to follow the dreams that have been placed on our hearts and in order to do so we must navigate the ups and downs of life knowing that our darkest times can and will lead to our greatest light.
Because I’m always telling our audiences to follow their dreams, I think the universes has a sense of humour and then literally gave me a dream to do something totally out of my comfort zone. I am now living proof that when you follow your dreams your life will open you up to possibilities beyond anything you ever thought possible for yourself and as a gift to others.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1) Practice. You have to be willing to show up to the practice of that which you want to learn or do. I practiced singing for years and years with teachers and in choirs before I ever gained the confidence to sing in front of others. My band writes and practices for hours and hours and hours before we step on stage. I show up to the practice of making art and have to keep doing so to not only create the work but for it to be able to evolve. Every 15 or so pieces I make I feel I have breakthrough pieces that showcase another level or dimension of this work only because I’ve continued to show up to create. So you have to keeping show up to the practice of the work.
2) Humility. We have to have humility on the journey and understand that if we let the positive comments go to our head, the negative ones will be soul crushing. When we humble ourselves to our missions in service, other peoples perception of us or our work doesn’t hold as much weight because its for a larger cause. I also believe if we let our Ego’s get in the way of our work, we stop learning, growing and evolving and can ultimately block the channels of the divine that bless us with our talents and visions.
3) Developing a connection with God, your higher self, calling upon your angels or communing with the divine, whatever you want to to call it or how you want to frame it, I believe this is an area of knowledge we must access. It’s the knowledge that we aren’t alone as we walk this life and there is a higher intelligence that surrounds us and wants us to call on it for guidance, it will show us the signs of our next steps or where we need to go in quite moments or in synchronicities that mean something to us but the first step is asking for the wisdom, knowledge or guidance of all the benevolence that surrounds us.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love collaborating with people because collaborating with others allows our visions and capabilities to expand beyond ourselves.
At this point I am looking to collaborate with people who are creating healing spaces as I believe my art is meant for exactly this type of space, I call it healing art for healing places. I’d love to create custom art for these types of spaces in collaboration with their visions for the aesthetic of their spaces.
Together with their direction or suggestions we could co create beautiful art that will ripple beauty and goodness out in their spaces and touch the lives of all who come into contact with them. It’s what I call blessings upon blessings.
