We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by trying to be as present as possible. I’m often inspired by conversations with friends or the media I consume (books, podcasts, etc.). I also make time for activities that fuel me creatively, like reading, dancing, or writing my weekly newsletter.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a writer, content marketing consultant, and freelance coach. As a writer and content marketing consultant, I work with brands of all sizes to create blog posts, website copy, and other long-form written materials. What’s most exciting about it is that I get to learn and write about all kinds of interesting topics, from TikTok Shop to job search anxiety.
As a freelance coach, I work with self-employed creatives to help them scale and optimize their businesses. I work with clients one-on-one and have an on-demand course (https://jasminewilliams.ca/click-worthy-creative-academy/). It’s always so rewarding to help people achieve their goals and grow their confidence throughout our time together.
One of my newest offerings is free virtual coworking sessions! I started them to solve my own problem: feeling lonely and unfocused working from home. I host about 1-2 sessions a week, and it’s been a great way to connect with other remote workers and self-employed folks and get some deep work done. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the three most impactful qualities on my journey were creativity, resilience, and self-trust. Creativity is essential because there are always problems to solve, and often, you need to think outside the box. You need resilience to weather the tough times and self-trust to go after your dreams.
To hone your creativity muscle, you need to develop some creative practice, even if it’s unrelated to your work—writing, photography, painting, etc. Get into the habit of expressing yourself. Building resilience is a lot of mindset work. Learning how not to take things too personally and take care of your mental health. Lastly, with self-trust, I believe that competence builds confidence. The more you accomplish and the more tough situations you get through, the more you can remind yourself that you can handle what else life throws at you.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Right now, I’m looking to develop my virtual coworking sessions into a side hustle as a paid membership. So, if anybody would be interested in building this with me or connecting with people who might be interested, that would be great!
