Meet Jason Horton

We recently connected with Jason Horton and have shared our conversation below.

Jason , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by maintaining a supple perspective, keeping an open mind and heart, being slow to judge, and by making the decision to purposefully extract the lessons from even the most minute experiences. Being a Virgo (Sun), Gemini (Moon), and Scorpio (Rising) as well as a 3 Life Path, I naturally tend to observe life’s experiences, analyze and accept them, then release and relate through my creative channels. The source of my creativity is my perspective. My perspective is this: Everything already exists. Creativity is nothing more than being able to access creation, conceive of it, and convey your understanding of it to others in this realm.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a native of Dallas, TX, and the founder and president of The Musicians Sanctuary. The Musicians Sanctuary was founded in 2016 and primarily serves the North Texas area. We are a social and professional networking hub for musicians and other artistic creators who would naturally form a symbiotic relationship with us in business. We also provide gig placement and other professional services for musicians, as well as musician booking services and music education for patrons. You can find more about TMS at www.themusicianssanctuary.org.

Along with my music, I also enjoy a number of different things, such as vegan plant-based cuisine (I’m a pretty good vegan cook, so maybe a vegan restaurant in the future!?!😉) I am also very passionate about healing. Healing the mind, body, and soul through herbs, food, sound, introspection, chakra alignment, and meditation—I love to learn! I’m currently studying AI and cybersecurity. Investing and trading in stocks and cryptocurrency is also one of my favorites. I enjoy being with family and friends and meeting other people!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three things that have been most impactful in my journey and that may help someone else are:

1. The ball is your court!

In this life, we could look at the hand that is in front of us and accept it for what it is, or if it’s not serving you, alchemize it and use it to advance. However, remember to play the game! Don’t get so discouraged by the distractions that you don’t even attempt to play.

2. Don’t let your losses or shortcomings define you!

Let them be the helpers and illuminators they were designed to be. They are not meant to bring you down, but to lift you up! Those losses are there to help you focus your attention on things that need more of our awareness, understanding, and engagement! This is how we win even in losses: Take the lesson from it all! You’ll always win if you understand and fix how you lost.

3. Believe in the power within!

Get acquainted with your Àse! Understand that you have the ability to perceive and produce!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Things can easily become overwhelming if we don’t take a moment to breathe and just be aware. I like to take something that may be overwhelming and look inward to see why this external thing is affecting me internally to such a degree as overwhelm. You can only do this effectively by being patient, calm, and aware. It’s like trying to diffuse a bomb; you’d better not go in there cutting all the wires because your nerves got the best of you. Keeping a clear mind will allow you to respond rather than react. Take that thing that seems to be too big for you to handle and look at it fundamentally. Break it down and digest the small pieces, then put it back together again. It’s our natural process already. Just apply to these “overwhelming” things as well!
