Meet Jason Lally

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jason Lally. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jason below.

Jason, so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.

When I was young for a portion of my life I was raised by a foster family. Reading was (and still is 🙂 essential and constant in that household. As my skills increased I realized I could use words to move and influence people. I had no idea that I would end up being a composer / lyricist but I knew the more I read the more words “I would have”.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

“It doesn’t matter where you live if you don’t feel at home.”

This was my experience growing up in foster care.

I’m Jason Lally, co-creator, lyricist, and composer of Lady In The Moon, a rock musical about
Josh, a young man from foster care, and Allison, a wealthy girl, both struggling with anxiety. The
Lady in the Moon, is a non-denominational deity offering unseen guidance, who appears when
faith is strong and most needed. With her help, Josh and Allison find a sense of belonging and
faith in themselves.

About Me:
At 15, I was homeless. I created this story to address themes of overcoming adversity, staying
true to yourself, and finding faith—not just in foster care, but in life. It’s about how my need for
human connection outweighed my fear of rejection. In the finale, there’s a line that sums up my
personal journey: “Put your arms around me tightly, I need to know that you’re there. And now
I know you’re there, I know there’s a light at the end.”

Lady In The Moon features 21 songs in the style of Rent and Jesus Christ Superstar. It’s written
for a 9 piece orchestra, with 7 principal roles and 8+ ensemble parts. We had a successful, sold
out 4-performance run at Whitefire Theatre Los Angeles in January of 2025 with minimal set
design, using digital animation for backdrops to keep costs down.

We live in deeply divisive times, and Lady In The Moon is a timely story for anyone seeking
empowerment. Like Josh and Allison, we all face the choice to either stay in the darkness or
step into the light.

What I’m Seeking:
The show is ready for producer partnerships, with the ideal next step being a Broadway style
production at a professional venue. We are also interested in having our next director work
directly with our book writer for best results.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Write everything down. The more you have to shape and edit the better. You won’t use everything and that’s ok!
2. DO NOT USE CHATGPT — People will know at least sub consciously that what you are doing does not “feel” authentic.
3, Don’t be precious, your work of art is not your baby. Be open to collaborating (took me a very long time to learn this). You don’t have to take the input given but remain open to it.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
