Meet Ja’son Manwill

We were lucky to catch up with Ja’son Manwill recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ja’son , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Since the age of 7 I have had confidence and self-esteem. It has changed and became more valuable and assured over time. When I was in school I was bullied, and as you can imagine that tore my self-confidence to shreds. All of us at one point in time, either lose our confidence or gain it again. For me personally I regained my self-confidence in 2016. After having a traumatic brain injury in 2009 and losing the ability to walk and talk and learning sign language to communicate to those I loved, friends and family, I was able to get it all back. What most people don’t know and has not been told openly until now with Bold Journey is that to this day when someone approaches me and asks me do you know so and so song. I think about it, have a look, and realize that I don’t know that song in the present moment. Then 20-30 minutes later, I realize I know the song, have played it over 10,000 times and I knock it out of the park when I sing and perform it too. This is what I go through everyday that I touch the ivory. People love my music, they love my energy, and yet sometimes the confidence that I know I have…..leaves for just a brief moment and I am unsure of myself. In that moment all the self-confidence I had is gone. Moments later the confidence and self-esteem are back. If this was you, and you were a world-class rock recording artiste, and every time you took the stage, you didn’t know if you would be able to remember the lyrics of your own song, or those that the crowd wanted you to play; you just might feel like your confidence is gone and your self-esteem would be at an all time low. Looking back after the brain injury I am stronger, faster, and more capable than ever before. My weaknesses are now my strength and I am grateful to be alive and amongst the living. I had 100 Gran-Mal Seizures an hr during 2009-2016. 7 years of pure hell. Yet I overcame and am now making my Bold Journey back to life and if I can do it, then all of you reading and listening to this article can as well. If you need help with your confidence and self-esteem, just get in touch with me and I will be happy to talk with you. Reach out and I look forward to your communication. btw….. the last line to this story is I learned to play AGAIN- Piano, guitar, drums, bass, cello and 24 other instruments of the orchestra AFTER the injury. Confidence is ALWAYS in YOU, and so is Self-Esteem, make it come alive again, you can do it, and it doesn’t take a medical injury to make it happen. You have the power to change your entire environment and situation at any time. I encourage you to do so. I believe in all of you.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
What I do is make music that people enjoy. I am a musical artist dare I say genius. I love creating songs that the entire planet will enjoy. I play for audiences around the world. I play piano and I make the ivory tell a story along with lyrics that vividly tell the imagination and keep you focused while drawing you in to the sense of it all. What I feel is most exciting or special about being a musical artist is the FANS. The FANS are everything to me. They are the reason I write and sing the lyrics and they are the reason I can create more and do what I do. They make me better than I am by myself. When I sing my words and lyrics out to a sold-out crowd of 50,000+ and I hear my lyrics being sang back to me, it just warms my heart and I am moved to emotion as I know they enjoy the music I am performing for them and it has in some way affected how they view a subject, changed their reality, or even made them better and enabled themselves to see the world differently. My tagline is “Rock Infused with a Twist of Lime”. When people come to my shows or the fans come to a meet and greet, it is an experience and I do my best to make sure that each and every person in attendance feels special, valued and loved. They spend money to see me, they took their time to come out to the event, and they decided how they were going to participate and play the game. I cherish the. FANS for this and I appreciate all of you. You make my life so happy and I am filled with joy when I see them time and time again at every show and performances along the way. I play the ivory and keys the same way a doctor does surgery, with precision and dedication to the craft and also with the persistence and tenacity of a fighter or prized bull I am so happy to be able to share more music with my FANS and I cherish all of them equally. This year will see NEW VINYL Albums coming out, NYE LIVE Performance, Award Show Performances, Musical Collaborations, and a very special Orchestra performance of my songs.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I see now that being Punctual and on time to appointments, gigs, bookings, sound checks is so vital to the career and business itself. No one likes a late band member, or musician and if you get into a habit of that, then you become known for it as well. Second, would be Authentic, and as an Artist and Musician you have a choice to be REAL or fake. The best choice is to be YOU, and REAL and people appreciate that especially your fans, they connect with you faster and also they get to see YOU, like no one else can, and that is super special in itself. Third would be working smarter and putting in the time to do it right. Today we live in such a fast paced world and it seems like everyone wants something from you NOW. As an Artist and Musician it’s very important to KNOW what the public wants and NEEDS and then to give it to them. When you work smart and then take the time to do it right, wether that is creating, producing, mixing, mastering, promoting, marketing, etc- everything you do shows a professionalism and that you treat the business seriously. It is a BUSINESS and you have to run it the same way, especially if you are an Independent Artist.

If you are just starting in your journey as an Artist or Musician you MUST learn how to promote and market your services to your community and people. To learn this key data I would invite you to get the 10x Rule Book and 10x Mentor Audio book from Audible by Grant Cardone. Grant’s information changed my life and allowed me to look and take my business to 10x levels and I am so grateful for that ability and to see now where I need to change and adapt no matter what is coming at me or who is saying negative things about me as an Artist and Musician.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
Go ALL-IN. Don’t think about it, don’t doubt it, don’t regret anything. Live Dangerously and Ride or Die. If you have a strength as an Artist, USE it to the fullest and don’t worry about what anyone says or does in regard to this. When you go ALL-IN you are announcing in a new unit of time that you are COMMITTED. By doing this, you are cementing the ideas and creation you just mentioned into reality and existing. Now you still have to do other things to strengthen and make sure the create stays in place. The difference is what you do, speaks volumes about your character and also about your ability to make things go right, no matter what the obstacle is. No matter how many times you get denied or told that you cannot do it- DO IT ANYWAYS, and DON’T take NO for an Answer. Few months back I was told that I could not do something in music. Not only did I do that exact same thing, and become a Grammy® Nominated World-Class Rock Recording Artiste, I also helped people to face their fears and obstacles, and no matter what obstacles they were stopped on, I was able to pull them through it and on to bigger and better things.
