Meet Jason Mercado

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jason Mercado. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jason below.

Hi Jason, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I draw my resilience from my mother, who has been an unwavering pillar of strength in our family. Raising four children single-handedly, and in the face of constant challenges posed by the chronic illness of two of my siblings with cystic fibrosis, she has displayed unparalleled determination and fortitude. Her ability to navigate through adversity in the absence of my father has been a profound source of inspiration for me. Witnessing her unwavering commitment to our family’s well-being has instilled in me a deep sense of resilience that continues to shape my outlook on life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I began my journey in the world of modeling at a young age in New York and soon found myself traveling across the globe. While I always harbored a passion for entertaining people, my studies in architecture eventually led me to the world of theater, where I discovered my true calling. After immersing myself in theater in New York, I transitioned to working in television in New York, Colombia, and Mexico, which ignited a profound love for the world of motion pictures. Eight years ago, I packed my car and embarked on a cross-country journey. Throughout the ups and downs, my pursuit of greatness has remained unwavering. I’ve had the opportunity to work on several shows and numerous commercials. Currently, I find myself in the midst of filming a feature film, all while pursuing my bachelor’s degree in film directing.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three of my most prominent qualities are my attentive listening skills, my spirit of generosity, and my consistent kindness, especially towards those in need. I continually strive to maintain a positive outlook on life. The advice I would offer to individuals at the outset of their journeys is to never cease dreaming, while also emphasizing the importance of being a good listener, starting with oneself. Trusting one’s instincts when discerning between what’s positive and negative, and taking decisive action is crucial. Remember, nothing is impossible.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I am overwhelmed, I pause and take a deep breath, reminding myself that everything has its place. I meditate and listen to music. I express gratitude by yelling out loud the things I’m thankful for, and as silly as it sounds, it helps me.

Good or bad, each has its moment in life. I’ve learned to appreciate the great things, learn from the bad ones, and move on.
