Meet Jason Nash

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jason Nash. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jason, we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hopes that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Mental health is a topic that’s very near and dear to my heart…not because I’ve chosen to stew in its misery, but because I’ve overcome each and every issue that’s come my way! I’ve actually written three suicide notes; one in 2013, one in 2016, and one in 2017. In 2017, I finally decided to reach out for help. What I learned is that my body had been dealing with Adrenal Fatigue for almost 10 years. Since traditional medicine doesn’t recognize this condition, I was forced to find an alternative medicine clinic, also known as functional medicine.

My Adrenal Fatigue recovery consisted of lots of sleep, water, nutritional supplements, a low-carb diet, and avoiding stressful situations as much as possible. It’s been six years since my diagnosis and I’m feeling much better.

Now that I’m 45-years-old, my current issues are morning depression and anxiety. Recently, I discovered great solutions for both of them. For my morning depression, I set my alarm for 7 am so I can take one GNC Energy Formula capsule and one electrolyte capsule…and then fell back asleep until I actually have to wake up around 8 am. The result: I wake up with mental clarity and NO morning depression!

The anxiety I deal with is very mysterious, but I believe it’s age-related. Regardless, I found a great solution for that as well. Three times per day, I take an all-natural supplement called Kratom. Despite a ruthless ongoing smear campaign, it’s regularly consumed by up to 15 million people in the United States, according to the American Kratom Association. This smear campaign is being spearheaded by Big Pharma. They actively try to discredit the benefits of Kratom because they don’t stand to make any money from it…being that it’s an all-natural supplement. Even my doctor has actually confirmed this to be true.

As a wise man once said, “Can’t nobody take my pride. Can’t nobody hold me down. Oh, no! I got to keep on movin’!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I grew up in Kalamazoo, MI and graduated with a Marketing degree from Oakland University in 2015 (at the age of 37).

I moved to Longmont, CO in November 2016 and immediately fell in love with all the beautiful hiking trails that Colorado has to offer. So, in April 2017, the Nash Potatoes Outdoor Show (YouTube channel) was born.

In November 2019, I took a 4-month camping trip in my pop-up camper. This gave me an opportunity to travel, explore, unwind, and create lots of great videos.

In December 2020, I began recording a series of downhill skiing videos in Colorado. These quickly became popular and my passion for YouTube was greater than ever!

I actually had so many great memories of my first camping trip that I decided to do another one. So, in April 2021, I converted a 12-foot enclosed trailer into a camper and documented the whole process.

In June 2021, I reached 1,000 subscribers and was able to monetize my channel. Since then, my channel has grown exponentially. Currently, I’ve got about 32K subscribers and still growing (August 2023). My current goal is to reach 100K subscribers so I can receive the Silver Play Button (Creator Award) from YouTube!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities I possess, which have led me to this point:
1. My love of nature, camping, and the peacefulness of the outdoors.
2. I love to explore and discover new things. It’s been said that the happiest people are curious, adventurous, explorers.
3. I love to create…making something from nothing. I take pride in each and every video I post.

Years ago, I listened to a sermon by Pastor Brian Blum in Grand Rapids, MI. He explained that our bodies are like gas tanks. Doing stuff you “have to do” drains the gas tank. Doing stuff you “want to do” refills the gas tank. When the gas tank is empty, you burn out. I think it’s such a great reminder to take some time to relax…and not feel guilty about it!

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

I’m currently building a homestead in Blanca, Colorado. This has been a dream of mine for a long time. Now that it’s actually happening, I’m extremely excited…but also feeling very overwhelmed. The way that everything is falling into place makes me believe this was meant to be. I’m trying to stay focused on how happy I will be once I’m settled in.

My plan is to have chickens, ducks, rabbits, a dog, a cat, a large greenhouse, and maybe even goats. I think I’m going to name it Howard & Henry, who were my two grandfathers. I’ve always had a desire to know what it was like to have lived when they did. Was it a simpler, more enjoyable life? Regardless, my mini-farm is an effort to be more self-sufficient and live a little bit simpler lifestyle.
