Meet Jason Shapiro

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jason Shapiro. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jason below.

Hi Jason, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My parents instilled my work ethic along with the appreciation for the “earned dollar”.
I dare to say my work ethic is second to none. (In my respected arenas)

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an artist that reside close to the heart of downtown Orlando. My educational background is in graphic design and traditional art, while my other avenue of creativity is seen by being a chef! I am accomplished through schooling and private tutelage but never attended school for culinary arts. I continue to learn and grow constantly through interactions with my peers, superiors, and role models.

I mainly focus on abstract expressionism, but various other applications of my talent can be seen crossing “boarders and boundaries” of still life, surrealism, graphic design, typography, landscape, character design…a little bit of everything!

Most of my designs are done in my home studio, bathed in natural light, using traditional artistic methods then digitally transferred for some minor tweaks and touches, or visa versa.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Perseverance, high standards, and a willingness to fail and fail again.
While i excelled greatly during my higher education, the realization that there is still much to learn has always been constant. Developments in technology and trends in the arts seem to have been accelerated in the recent years. Now, a veteran of my craft, I find myself trying to learn more now than ever. While there is no formal classroom, I am a part of trial and error have been instrumental to success. Learning from professionals a decade or more younger than I am proves to be the most rewarding source of education and a decent amount of collaborative effort to move forward. “Old dog new tricks…”

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I found forums, and social media outlets to be the driving force of collaboration. Constructive criticism, a true hand in hand process, or even the simple thumbs up, are all rewarding in their own way within those various channels. High work ethic, as previously mentioned, is always important when finding someone to work with. Moving toward something with a purpose and determination are key components in a work partnership.
Shared responsibility and professional maturity keep me, in a collaboration, grounded. I enjoy working with others that excel in places where I do not. It creates a natural order and continuation of shared technique, knowledge, and application for the finished product.
