Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Javon Talley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Javon, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My favorite quote is from Nelson Mandela: “I never lose. I either win or I learn.” This saying has become a guiding principle for me, reminding me that not everything will always go as planned. Instead of feeling defeated or giving up, I see setbacks as opportunities to grow and improve, knowing that each challenge brings me closer to greatness.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As an investigator by profession, I maintain a professional exterior, yet outside of work, I embrace my true self as an indigenous Cowboy with a passion for professional wrestling. Proud of my Cusabo Tribe heritage, I promote our culture through my merchandise brand, Morningstar Ranch, fostering positive awareness. My enthusiasm for wrestling is demonstrated through my involvement in the podcast “Behind The Pyro,” where I share my insights and passion. These diverse interests enable me to give back to the community by coaching basketball and teaching the values of being a cowboy, blending cultural heritage, entertainment, and service to make a meaningful impact.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Have emotional intelligence
It’s okay to not succeed on your first try
And if your not laughing on your journey then your going the wrong way.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I highly recommend the autobiography of Malcolm X and the Spike Lee film *Malcolm X* to everyone I encounter. These works not only offer a profound perspective on Malcolm X’s life and legacy but also challenge perceptions of race and identity in America. They beautifully illustrate that when humans share a common love, superficial differences such as appearance or religion become irrelevant, emphasizing that love and happiness transcend race, creed, and faith. My hope is that everyone concludes this message—love and happiness are universal and unbound by any societal divisions.
