Meet Jay “4G” Gathers

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jay “4G” Gathers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jay “4G”, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My favorite quote is….”life is a gift, that offers us the privilege, the opportunity and the responsibility to give back…by becoming more!” -Anthony Robbins

Being that I wasn’t an individual that was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I wanted more for myself. As an adolescent, I watched my grandmother struggle to provide for me and my siblings. In addition, I watched my peers enjoy other luxuries that my siblings and I were not able to afford. Seeing this, I always wanted more for myself and different opportunities from my circumstances growing up. I worked hard on my academics all throughout school and was an A/B student for a good duration of my high school tenure. Unlike my parents, I always had dreams of becoming somewhat greater than the examples that proceeded me. One of the things that motivated me was growing up and being in a position to financially take care of my grandmother. She’d sacrificed so much to take care of my siblings and I. Therefore I wanted to do the same for her. I was determined to accomplish this no matter what came my way.

As a grew up and began having children of my own, this desire became even greater. I had more reasons to continue pressing towards the mark to reach my ultimate goal, which was to be a great provider and financially stable. Knowing I had responsibilities is what kept propelling me forward. It was that fire that kept burning inside of me to ultimately become a better version of what I’d seen growing up. A better version of myself and my environment.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Jay “4G” Gathers (aka 4G) is an American rapper, songwriter, book author and CEO of his clothing brand G SWAG. As a rapper, he’s known for his high energy and upbeat style, hailing from the vibrant music scene of Florida. Growing up in the Sunshine State, 4G was heavily influenced by the creativity and distinct musical style that is characteristic of the region. This influence has deeply shaped his musical identity, infusing his work with an infectious energy and
an undeniable groove that captivates audiences. In 2017, it was also here in the sunshine state where he formed his entertainment company, Grand Master Entertainment.

As a songwriter, he drew inspiration from the greats of hip-hop such as 2Pac, DMX, and Bone Crusher as major influences on his music. Their raw lyricism and powerful stage presence have undoubtedly left an
indelible mark on 4 G’s artistry, contributing to the passion and intensity that define his work.

Throughout his career as the face of Grand Master Entertainment, 4G has delivered a string of electrifying hits that
have resonated with fans across the globe. His chart-topping singles, including “Knock Knock,” “My Fatima,” and “Amazing,” have firmly established him as a force to be reckoned with in the hip-hop scene. In fact, “Amazing” soared to great heights that earned a coveted spot on the prestigious Billboard charts, a testament to 4 G’s undeniable talent and
widespread appeal. With his magnetic stage presence and arsenal of infectious anthems, 4G continues to captivate audiences and carve out his own distinct legacy in the world of hip-hop. As a book author, Jay “4G” Gathers is a storyteller, sage, and survivor who’s converted his life’s stanzas into a symphony of success. In his first authorship project entitled “Bounce Back,” he conducts a masterclass in the art of overcoming, offering melodies of motivation and a chorus of courage.

But 4G is more that a musical artist, compelling author and creative genius, he’s also a talented actor as well. Inspired by great talents such as Chadwick Boseman, Denzel Washington and Michael B. Jordan, 4G is slowly taking the world by storm. He’s never been the type of individual to wait on anyone to create opportunities for him. Instead, he’s taken the necessary steps and strides to create them for himself and others. As he gears up to produce his first feature film entitled “Bounce Back,” this feature film will be a horror and supernatural thriller. This film is set to not only captivate audiences, but have viewers talking for years to come.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I believe the three most important qualities along this journey have been integrity, patience and having unwavering faith.

When it comes to interacting with people, one has to have integrity. He or she has to be “trustworthy.” Not having a good name publicly or privately can affect or deter one’s momentum. It has to be understood that their “brand” or their name is the most valuable asset one posses. Once tarnished, it may be difficult for an individual to accomplish what their striving to do. This is a lesson I learned early on through my observation of others who may not have had this quality.

Secondly, I learned the importance of being patient. There is no shortcut to overnight success. There is a process to everything and it’s necessary to take all the proper steps. In the event one doesn’t, it can be very detrimental in more ways than one. Rational and quick decisions not carefully thought out can become life changing. On the other hand, exercising patience can help one avoid unwanted stress, pain and even save a lot of money in the process.

Lastly, in everything done, there has to be an attitude of “faith” over “fear.” Challenges will always be present and it can ultimately cause doubt to set in. But one has to always continue to exercise faith by believing in things unseen. Though that can be easier said than done, one has to be committed to the process. No matter what, trusting God to provide for on what’s being sought is of the utmost importance.
