Meet Jay Kelly

We recently connected with Jay Kelly and have shared our conversation below.

Jay, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

As a band it can be hard to keep everyone motivated all the time, but I think if you are serious about music and if you really believe in it and you really love it, then you just keep creating and trying to develop new ideas

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My name is Jay and I am the lead singer, and songwriter in my band “The New Serpents” I also play guitar. There are three people in the band, myself, Ben and Celeste. We are most influenced by The Beatles, but we also get inspiration from many other artist, bands and genres.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Skills, knowledge? We just mess about and hope what we come up with sounds half decent. But then again when it comes to rock music, it’s not all about having great music Knowledge, or having amazing skills. It’s about the music as a whole, it’s about the feeling it gives you creating it, and the feeling it gives the public listening to it.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

In the last year we have released an EP of 4 origins songs, and we had to learn to grow musically to come up with a record that we were all happy with. We had to learn new things to do with mixing and mastering the music also, along with how to distribute it on social media and streaming platforms. Also we did our first gigs in Liverpool at the famous cavern pub and cavern club, something we could only have dreamed of a year before.
