Meet Jay Mikal

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jay Mikal a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jay, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

After working in tech for over 15 years, I was laid off from a great position with a startup that lost it’s funding. This was actually the first time I ever had a lapse of employment in my life. For some reason, I was immediately engulfed with a deep since of peace (instead of feeling fear or anxiety about my future, my financial stability, or my next move). The week I lost my job, I started waking up at 4:44 AM every night for 7 days. It was disturbing at first because I couldn’t understand the meaning of the synchronicity but I knew something was trying to get my attention. After the week passed, I started researching the meaning of 444… I realized it was an angel number (a repeating number sequence believed to offer guidance, support, or validation on a person’s spiritual path). From there, I felt a divine inspiration to abandon my former corporate career path and puruse something completely different — a life of art. I had never been an artist or painted before but I felt this deep encouragement and Forceful nudge from the universe to being using my hands and creativity to bring attention to angel numbers and spiritual enlightenment through my art. Since then, I’ve made it a mission to create create whimsical artwork that inspires creativity, meaningful spiritual exploration, high-vibrating frequencies, inner strength, clarity, and heightened connection to the angelic realm. My art is intended to inspire and encourage people to pursue their passions — with a knowing that they are not on this journey alone. Support is all around us — we just have to be receptive to it.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m an emerging mixed media artist known for my ability to merge bold colors, abstract imagery, and sacred materials into vibrant, spiritually infused works of art. My creations offer a unique gateway to creativity, inspiration and profound spiritual experiences, transcending conventional aesthetics to ignite inspiration and meaningful spiritual exploration. The consistent theme in my artworks are the galaxy-like portrayal in my pieces which look like explosions of stars and meteorites. My fascination with space, the unknown and spirituality are the themes that will always show up in my artwork.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think the most 3 impactful areas of focus on my journey were insatiable curiosity to learn new techniques/perfect existing techniques, daily meditation/spending time in nature, and relentless determination to bring concepts/ideas into a manifested state that honors your vision. I think people early in their journey should look inside of themselves first, practice stillness and meditation to tap into where God is trying to take you. If you believe it, then you can conceive it, but believing in yourself is truly the first step. There is no risk too big to take on after that, it’s just a question of how to dive into the journey head on, without entertaining ideas of restrictions or limits. Once you come to terms with that part, you are able to create freely without worry. Lastly, HAVE FUN, don’t overthink it, just do it. Most of my best pieces were created without overthinking, real art isn’t processed or thoughtfully engineered, it’s organic and derived from inspired action. Feel your way through your creative execution — DONT think your way through the process.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I turn my phone on airplane mode. I block out all of the noise from the world and I take long walks at the beach. Something about being near the ocean (no matter what time of day) always grounds me and helps me reset. Sometimes we just need to get away from all of the social media, pings on our phone, mundane responsibilites of life — and just get back to being free and finding gratitude in the simple things in life.
