We recently connected with Jay Parikh and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, thank you so much for agreeing to open up about a sensitive and personal topic like being fired or laid-off. Unfortunately, there has been a rise in layoffs recently and so your insight and experience with overcoming being let go is relevant to so many in the community.
Many people find losing their job really stressful. They have to work really hard to keep their job, sometimes at the cost of their mental well-being and who they are. This is because they’re scared of losing their stable income. In my life, I’ve had a lot of different jobs. I’ve learned to see getting fired as a good thing because it ends a boring and repetitive phase in life. Getting fired doesn’t mean you’re not good; it means that particular job wasn’t the right fit for you. You might deserve something that suits you better and makes you happy. Some jobs pay a lot but don’t bring real happiness. Real happiness comes from inside you and lasts forever. So, when I lose a job, I feel excited because I know something better is coming. Life is a series of journeys, and sometimes you need to finish one to start a new, better one. If you ever lose a job, remember that a better opportunity is on its way. Better pay isn’t just about money; it’s about finding opportunities that make you happier and improve your life. 🌟
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an Ex-Filmmaker, I’ve made a bunch of short films and web series. My journey in the world of making films has been a unique one. At first, I was an actor, but then I discovered how fascinating making movies was, so I started creating them. While I was doing that, I found a way to live my acting dreams by working with other actors. In 2021, I decided to go back to acting because the time felt right. Since then, I’ve been part of many cool projects as an actor. In the next few months, there are more exciting projects lined up for me. Plus, I’m going to start teaching about making films on Instagram, but it will be for people who subscribe. I’ll share videos about how to make movies and all the things I know. And I’ll also talk with my subscribers one-on-one if they have any questions about filmmaking. 🎬✨
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Since this question has three major categories, I’m going to pick one for each that has really helped me. One is self-awareness quality, two is creative skills, and three is engineering knowledge.
Firstly, self-awareness is about finding myself by putting myself through different situations to help me blossom into the right flower. It’s about discovering my true calling and where I can be truly happy and proud of myself. I don’t want just a career; I want to create an empire. It’s okay to be confused, but hallucinating in confusion is really dangerous at a very early age. I have discovered my true calling, and since then, I’ve been constantly working on discovering myself. It’s not just a months or years-long process; it’s a lifetime process.
Number two, creative skills. I believe everyone is creative, and creativity is something that comes naturally. It cannot be taught in some school or some university. Finding your own creative scale is challenging, but once you find it, it’s your intelligence that needs to work on it and make it more powerful. Creativity is like software that needs constant upgrades. So, being creative, I have to constantly work on polishing my skills and learning new ways to approach my creativity.
Number three, engineering knowledge. This has been a great bonding experience for me. By education, I am an electronics and communication engineer, and engineering has been my lifesaver. When I moved to America, my job in IT really helped me transition into the creative world. Today, once in a while, I do go back and learn about new technologies. It is fascinating how technology is constantly evolving.
So, to the people who are starting off, the only thing they need to focus on is inventing themselves, clarifying what they want, and facing their true selves in the mirror. That’s really important. Accepting it, and then the rest will fall into place. 🌟
