We recently connected with Jay Perez and have shared our conversation below.
Jay, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by staying connected to God, allowing Him to pour into the places where I feel drained or stuck. When I hit a creative drought, I seek His guidance and let Him fill me with fresh inspiration.
Creativity also thrives when it’s fueled by purpose. I stay energized by aligning my work with meaningful goals—drawing from childhood memories, family traditions, personal struggles, and the stories of others. Meeting with fellow creatives, hearing their journeys, and stepping away when needed all play a role in keeping my creative spirit alive.
Sometimes, a simple walk in the park or a film walk—capturing life through photos and video—helps me reset. I embrace rest and allow the world outside of myself to reignite my creative energy.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a filmmaker and photographer, I am passionate about telling stories that resonate deeply with audiences. Whether through still images or motion pictures, my goal is to document and convey narratives that touch the heart. I find immense joy in every aspect of the creative process—from being on set and directing actors to meticulously editing the final piece. Bringing an idea to life allows me to draw upon a rich tapestry of experiences, including childhood memories, personal struggles, and moments of joy. These elements serve as the brushes with which I paint visuals that evoke genuine emotion.
Currently, I am dedicating my efforts to passion projects that have been years in the making. I am excited to see them come to fruition in this upcoming season and look forward to sharing these heartfelt stories with the world.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me, the most impactful qualities have been consistency, resilience, and faith.
showing up daily, even when results aren’t immediate., staying committed when challenges arise, especially without support from others. Your “why” must be strong enough to push through doubt.
Lastly, my faith keeps me grounded. I trust that the Creator has a plan, and in moments of struggle, that He gives me strength and a sense of purpose when I need reminder.
For anyone starting out—stay consistent, stay resilient, and stay connected to what fuels you. Those three things will take you further than talent alone ever could.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did was love my brother and me unconditionally and sacrifice so much to give us a better future. Through their hard work and perseverance, they showed me that there are no limits to what I can achieve. Their dedication and belief in us shaped my mindset and gave me the foundation to pursue anything I set my mind and heart to do.
