We were lucky to catch up with Jay Plush recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I definitely believe that practice makes perfect. I pour into myself and feed the things that I like about myself. I was raised in a nurturing home with a lot of reassurance, so I was a confident child and I think that confidence and self-assurance has always stayed with me. I read a lot, if I’m not sure about something I’ll read about it and the knowledge that I gain helps me feel more confident. I can also say that exercising and having healthier eating habits contributes to my self-esteem as well.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a Hip Hop Artist, Songwriter and Author. One of the best things about being a Creative is being able to positively influence people with my lyrics and sort of bring people along to see my life’s journey through my lens. Hip Hop culture is very influential and it’s exciting for me to be a part of it because it played such a significant part in my upbringing. So many people love music and to be given the opportunity to contribute to the music industry and make hits that the people will enjoy forever is priceless. I’ve been networking, learning more about the business in hopes of reaching a significant worldwide audience. You can find my music on all streaming platforms, just search for Jay Plush.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The first quality I would say is hard work and dedication. If it’s really your passion you have to put in time to develop your craft. Secondly, I would say patience. Don’t be quick to give up when one door closes, just search for another opportunity. Thirdly, I would say be genuine as you can only keep up with a facade for so long. In other words, be true to yourself because you will have a happier journey filled with less regrets.
We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
I think it’s better to be more well rounded by investing effort to improve areas a person isn’t as strong in. In my opinion you don’t have to cater to the areas you’re not as strong in but you still want to be at least proficient because it’s better to turn weaknesses into strengths. Similar to sports, sharpening your overall game makes you a better overall player.
