We recently connected with Jayelisa Little and have shared our conversation below.
Jayelisa, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My purpose was discovered when I learned who I am in Christ Jesus. There are so many avenues to receive advice and influence from. After experiencing most of the things in this world, I realized that my identity and purpose can only come from The One who created me – God. After being tired of trying to do things my way, I began to read the Holy Bible and I paid attention to what I struggled with the most. I often struggled deeply with rejection, low-self-esteem, and pride. However, when I read the Bible, God showed me through His Word that by believing in Him, I am loved, valued, saved, victorious, chosen, called, free, and complete. Believing and knowing those statements about myself led me to what I do today: teach and tutor mathematics, coach auxiliary band teams, and record music. My purpose is to introduce the truth of God to others while spreading the gift of joy to anyone that I encounter. Most of that flows straight to my students that I see daily.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At first, throughout my grade school years, I only wanted to be a math teacher. Since becoming a teacher, my capacity has gotten larger. I am a music recording artist, author, band auxiliary coach, and speaker. I am currently focusing on my teacher expertise, and I desire to become a principal, one day. My nonprofit organization is called A Hope To Help, where we advise, encourage, and support youth who may be hopeless during transitions in life. Everything that I do is for the purpose of giving God glory and being a light in the world.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that are most impactful in my journey are the following: Love, Godly Connections, and Discipline. All of these are difficult to obtain and maintain when you are trying to do anything by yourself. My advice to anyone is to first, get to know God- your creator. Read His Word(The Holy Bible), pray, seek Him and His Will for your life in all that you do, and be ready to shift when it’s time. Because God is love, that’s the quality that matters the most. Everything that we do must be done in love. Once you get in alignment with Him, He will send you the people that you need for your journey. Discipline, or the lack thereof is the main ingredient to see results or failures. I still battle with that daily, but I know what I’m supposed to do, so I strive to do it-even when I don’t feel like it.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My greatest area of growth/improvement in the past 12 months has been my RELATIONSHIPS! I am actually very excited to talk about it. For almost ten years I had a hard time maintaining my friendships and relationships due to traumatic experiences that I never personally released. After choosing to hold myself accountable for the wrong that I’ve done and working through the journey of apologizing to and forgiving others, I am currently in a better state of maintaining boundaries, receiving the godly friends that I’ve always desired and prayed for, and embracing the newness of love, support, encouragement and blessings of friendships.
