We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jaylen Brookins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jaylen below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Jaylen with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from both of my parents but more so my mother she worked more then one job told me it’s nothing wrong with having more then one source of income. My father worked one good job that helped take care of the bills
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My brand ATM Jay is really about maximizing your full potential to the fullest the ATM stands for all the money . In the barbering industry I’m trying to get all the money it comes with rather I’m doing a haircut , a facial, a retwist and or coloring someone’s hair. My barber school teacher told me the only thing I should turn down when a client walks through that door is my collar. I should be ready to give that client whatever services they ask for she would tell us. I also am looking forward to starting my own product line as it relates to the clients requests like beard oil that helps beard growth, a good pomade for clients hair.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One of those skills and qualities I can say is audio engineering. Before I went to barber school I was In college to become an audio engineer and I’ve mastered how to control the sound board while someone’s performing on stage. The other skill I have is customer service I’ve worked retail before as well as fast food so customer service kind of comes easy to me i listen to the client and can relate to their misunderstandings and can help correct them if needed or give them the best advice. And my last skill I would say is making sure the client is well groomed whether that’s from me performing a retwist or a haircut service or hair color service. If you look good you feel good those were Deion sanders words that I keep in the back of my mind.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Who has become most helpful I would have to say my grandma and my parents. Growing up I spent a lot of time at my grandparents home I would see how they viewed life at their age and would apply it to everyday life. She always told me If you treated other people right you won’t have nearly as many problems. My mom has her own real estate business so I’ve looked up to her as how she would run her business and would treat her clients and how hard she worked. My father told me to always work as if your working for the lord so always give my best in whatever career field I’m in. To always listen first before speaking and to give 100% everyday.
