Meet Jaymar Jackson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jaymar Jackson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jaymar, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose by focusing on what would not only make me happy, but also what would make other’s happy. I feel like a lot of this world lacks empathy and I want to be the one that brings it to the forefront. Teach people that despite our differences we’re all fighting for the same thing. Peace, prosperity, and love. My purpose is to bring others together and find ways to overcome adversities.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am Jaymar Jackson. I am 32, a writer and self published author who focuses on black fantasy and sci-fi.

My first book is Celestial Elementals, it’s about six black young adults who are chosen to be the next set of warriors in a never-ending battle against evil. They must put their differences aside and learn to work together before the Earth is destroyed.

It’s available now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Apple Books. I also narrated and voice acted the audiobook.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

One thing I really focused on was making things emotional and making things relatable for my readers. I want them to feel like they can relate to my characters and I want them to see their growth and their struggles. I feel like its important to show that even thought these people are powerful, they go through trials and tribulations just like we do.

A skill I managed to nurture was my ability to think critically within the confines of fantasy. Coming up with how the characters powers work, what abilities they may unlock, what it would be like for a human to react to having superpowers out of no where. It’s about using source materials for other characters that may already exist and thinking about your chapters growth and needs to overcome their struggles.

Im really thankful for what I’ve learned in my years as an IT professional. I think it has allowed me to assist in my writing in ways I haven’t even thought of especially when I’m fusing magic and technology.
