We recently connected with Jayvaughn Warren and have shared our conversation below.
Jayvaughn , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
As a movement artist, I believe in order for me to be able to complete a motion I have to see myself do it over and over in my head. In order for me to see myself doing things I haven’t done before, I have to use my imagination.
Even as a stuntman I have to use my imagination a lot. Since I was a child I’ve always valued the power of imagination.
I feel as though people don’t understand just how important it is to be imaginative.
To me it allows one to create a separate reality from the one we live in. Therefore I think imagination is a powerful source of creativity.
One way that I keep my creativity alive is by using my imagination to give myself a personality for the week. For example, last week I was a detective. Having this persona allowed me to look at life’s everyday challenges as cases that had to be solved, and in that way it made them fun.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a digital creator, stuntman, and a movement artist.
Growing up I’ve always been into action movies and the art of human movement.
For me it all started in my living room when would watch old shaolin movies! The actors and stuntmen were really good at what they did and that drove me to beat up my pillows while following plot of the movies, I was really immersed!
Since then I’ve trained super hard and began to take movement and stunts seriously.
Through my journey I’ve discovered this form of movement called Martial Arts Tricking, Tricking (in my definition) is the combination every form of movement. But usually it’s martial arts and gymnastics.
I’m my current life what I’ve been chasing the most is my career as a stuntman. I haven’t had too many roles or jobs yet, but I’m always looking for them and training every day for when I do get my first gig.
What I like the most about being a stuntman is being able to bring action to the audience. It’s what makes many action movies watchable (lol).
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In my journey I believe the three most important things to have are:
1. Intention
2. Passion
3. Patience
When it comes to intention, we all have our own reasons for wanting to be successful whether it’s for money, family, adrenaline, etc. It’s important to know why you want to do something. Lots of people put themselves in fields they don’t want to be in, SO BE INTENTIONAL.
Passion is a very powerful driving force for success. Being passionate about what you do will help you achieve and grow your skills no matter what it is you’re passionate about doing. LOVE YOUR LIVE!
Patience combined with passion and intention will give you a clear vision for the future and more importantly the present. Don’t rush anything and most importantly, DONT SKIP STEPS. Things take time to come, so in the meantime you have to prepare yourself for the future while you’re in the present.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
COMMUNITY IS KEY
I used to think that I’d have to do everything on my own. While it is important to have some sense of independence and solitude, having a community to share your thoughts and ideas with will help you so much when you’re trying to level up your skills and networking. In any type of community there is always an abundance of knowledge that is accessible by communication.
Find your community and stick with them!
