Meet Jaz Burgess

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jaz Burgess. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jaz, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Imposter syndrome isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a reality I’ve faced numerous times on my path to building Hustle Meets Grace and Sol Haven Counseling. As someone who transitioned from documenting my personal healing journey to running a wellness consulting company and counseling practice, I’ve often felt like I didn’t “belong” in certain spaces or wasn’t “qualified” enough despite my accomplishments.

But what I’ve learned is this: you don’t need permission to be in rooms where you belong.

Imposter syndrome often shows up when we compare ourselves to others or believe there’s only one way to succeed. Early on, I had to remind myself that my journey is unique and that I am the blueprint for what I’m building. There’s no roadmap for combining faith, therapy, and holistic wellness the way I’m doing it, and that’s okay.

I’ve also come to realize that grace is the antidote to imposter syndrome. Giving myself the grace to make mistakes, evolve, and not have all the answers has been crucial. I began focusing on progress, not perfection, which helped me silence the internal critic.

Community matters too. Surrounding myself with mentors and like-minded individuals who saw my vision, even on days when I couldn’t, helped ground me in truth. Their belief in me, combined with my commitment to personal and spiritual growth, became the force that drowned out the imposter syndrome voice.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hustle Meets Grace is redefining the way we approach self-care, mental health, and spiritual growth. As the founder, my mission is to offer holistic wellness solutions rooted in the intersection of faith, therapy, and physical well-being. What excites me most about this journey is the unique blend of modalities I bring together: Jesus, Yoga, and Therapy. These three pillars guide everything I do under Hustle Meets Grace and offer a holistic pathway for individuals to reconnect with their authentic selves.

The journey to establishing Hustle Meets Grace started as a personal blog in 2017, where I shared my self-discovery journey toward holistic healing. Today, Hustle Meets Grace has evolved into a wellness consulting company that empowers millennials and spiritual seekers to find balance, healing, and purpose in their lives. My story is one of transformation, and I believe that God uses every season to shape us into who we are meant to become. Through the twists and turns of this journey, I’ve discovered that grace is essential, not just for ourselves but in how we navigate the world.

Under the Hustle Meets Grace umbrella, I offer three transformative services:

HMG Yoga: Local and international classes integrating somatic movement, sound healing, and mindfulness to help individuals heal their bodies and minds. This practice isn’t just about the physical—it’s about realigning with your inner self, addressing trauma stored in the body, and promoting overall well-being.

Remix Your Life Coaching: This coaching program is geared toward Black women seeking personal development, self-discovery, and purpose-driven success. By leveraging their natural gifts and talents, I guide them to cultivate a growth mindset and create a life they love, blending wellness with goal-setting and spirituality.

Sol Haven Counseling: The newest offering under HMG, Sol Haven specializes in mental health counseling for those looking to rediscover themselves at the very core of their identity. My own experience with reinventing myself equips me to provide a safe space where individuals can heal and return home to themselves after forgetting who they are after life’s challenges.

In addition to my core services, I’m honored to be a public speaker, having presented on national stages, including a TEDx Talk on the intersection of mental health and student loan repayment. My book, The Student Loan Remix, delves deeper into these topics and serves as a resource for navigating financial and emotional well-being. At its heart, Hustle Meets Grace is about helping individuals heal from within and reclaim their personal power. I believe that by merging faith, wellness, and therapy, we can create a holistic approach to mental health that’s both transformative and accessible. There’s always something new on the horizon—whether it’s launching a retreat, expanding my counseling services, or sharing my message with wider audiences. I’m grateful for this journey and the opportunity to serve as a guide for those seeking healing, balance, and self-discovery.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

For those starting out, learning how to incorporate multiple wellness modalities, such as physical movement, mental health practices, and spiritual growth, will deepen your offerings. Consider certifications or mentorships in areas like yoga, nutrition, or mindfulness. Your holistic wellness approach stems from blending physical, mental, and spiritual practices. By understanding that wellness is not one-dimensional, you created services that allow people to address various parts of their well-being. This was particularly impactful because many clients experience fragmented approaches to health—mental health separate from physical, or spiritual disconnected from emotional—and Hustle Meets Grace bridges those gaps. Your personal experience of healing through yoga, therapy, and faith brought a deeper understanding of how interconnected these areas are, allowing your clients to heal comprehensively.

For me, anchoring my work in faith gives my brand a unique perspective that appeals to spiritual seekers, making wellness and healing more accessible. Faith-driven healing is unique because it connects a person’s spiritual beliefs to their emotional and mental well-being, providing comfort and direction. Your Christian faith informs your counseling and coaching style, creating a space where people of faith feel seen, heard, and understood. This makes your work particularly special, as it infuses divine purpose into the healing journey, encouraging clients to trust in a higher power during challenging moments.

Lastly, your ability to focus on clients as individuals, guiding them based on their unique needs, sets you apart. Many coaching programs offer one-size-fits-all solutions, but your client-centered approach offers a flexible, evolving partnership that grows alongside the client. You use active listening, empathy, and empowerment to allow each client to discover their path to healing. This individualized approach honors each person’s journey, fostering lasting transformation instead of quick-fix solutions.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

My parents’ influence has been the bedrock of my journey as a business owner. Their unwavering belief in me didn’t just help me build resilience and perseverance to navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship—it continues to fuel my drive every day. From the start, their support meant I didn’t have to carry the weight of self-doubt or imposter syndrome alone. Their confidence in my abilities gave me the courage to take risks, knowing I had a strong foundation to lean on. The most powerful lesson they’ve taught me is their fierce desire to see me achieve my dreams. Even in moments of uncertainty or overwhelm, their belief in me served as a constant reminder of my potential and pushed me to keep going.

In my work, this deep-rooted resilience shows up in how I serve my clients. Just as my parents have always stood by me, I now get to create spaces where people can return home to themselves—helping them remember their worth and rediscover their potential. My personal journey of being supported and persevering through challenges is at the heart of my brand’s focus on holistic wellness, faith, and self-discovery. Because of the impact my parents have had on me, I know I’ll be able to carry forward a legacy of encouragement, compassion, and belief for those who look to me for guidance.
