We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jaz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jaz below.
Jaz, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I take advantage of being the only one in the room that looks like me. Honestly, Im so glad that I learned to love who I am, what I do, and what I represent. Of course I have insecurities, but more importantly I embrace who I am and how I look to the fullest. I am confident in myself and especially when I speak, some people judge me off how I look until they hear me speak and their perspectives change. Effectively, I use my voice and my appearance to be successful because I’m passionate and I see myself as a leader, so I will always lead the room to my advantage.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
First and foremost I am a professional barber I genuinely love what I do, from meeting people from all over the world, connecting and networking. However I get the most joy from the satisfaction and validation from my clients. With that being said, I created and established my apparel brand due to relatively learning from my clients and hearing their stories, from giving advice, to being an inspiration to others which helped me realize at the end of they day we all have the same goals might not be the exact goal but we can all relate to sacrificing and wanting more for ourselves. Now with fashion and being a visionary in our every day lives, That leads me to say that art and fashion has alway been in my life as a kid and growing up. I found myself drawing a lot of different forms of art I was also really into having cool clothes and fresh shoes and now as an adult looking back I realized that my talents and skills has always been there, I just had to find a way to execute them into reality and I’m only being myself which makes it so much better I don’t have to fit in to anything and being an entrepreneur also as a creator takes a lot of risks but definitely is worth it. I plan on opening an establishment within the next year or so to really expand my brand and create opportunities for people that’s like me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The most impactful thing in my journey that I feel helped me in life and still is, basically just don’t stop learning, reading, and overall educating yourself. Don’t stop trying, keep going, if one way don’t work another way will. We don’t have the answers to everything, I’m learning that life will lead you in the right direction when you just keep elevating yourself
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes I’m always looking and wanting collaborations, from barbering, art, and fashion collabs, I’m looking for people that’s determined and consistent, always room for improvements so that person just have to be driven with some creativeness
