Jazlyn, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
I overcame my challenges once I finally acknowledged that my struggles were due to my mental health issues and some trauma. At first, I never knew why I thought so negatively about myself or about anything I did. Once I started acknowledging that these thoughts and my negative mindset were due to my mental health issues as well as the trauma that I’ve dealt with, I decided to make some changes within myself by communicating my feelings more with the people who are there for me instead of holding it in, and trying to change my mindset to be more of a positive look instead of a negative look.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Travel Advisor and the owner of Luxe Dreams Travel. I love to get to know each and every one of my clients in a more personal level, and I work closely with each of them to be able to bring clarity and expertise to the planning process. By doing this, I am able to free them to have a wildly successful and altogether amazing experience out of their vacations from start to finish.

I am also the Founder of Latinx Business Babes which is a Latinx networking group. Latinx Business Babes was created in 2022 by Taira, Tanya, and I in order to connect and enhance the Latinx community through each other’s support, businesses, cultures, and education all around Central Florida. We host networking meetups monthly with a smaller and more personal experience so that we can truly get to know one another in both a business and personal level. By doing this, we notice that more Latinx business owners are gaining new friendships and collaborating with each other on events and/or projects.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say that the three skills that were and still are most impactful on my journey would be:

1. Communication
2. Customer Service
3. Self-Awareness

Some advice that I would give to those who are early in their journey of becoming a business owner or entrepreneur of how they can best develop or improve on these skills would be to think about your ideal client and how you would like for them to a loyal and returning client. Put yourself in your client’s shoes. Would you want to deal with someone who can’t accept and implement your feedback? Would you want to deal with someone who can’t communicate with you in a timely manner or doesn’t keep you updated on changes or details within a good timeframe? Would you want to deal with someone who won’t admit when and if they made a mistake?

By thinking about your ideal client and putting yourself in your client’s shoes, you are able to learn and train yourself on these three skills in order to gain new clients and have loyal clients.
