We were lucky to catch up with Jazlyn Romer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jazlyn, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my mother. Watching her juggle two jobs while still showing up for our family taught me the value of hard work early on. Growing up in a community where having a hustler’s mindset was expected, I started working at 15 and quickly realized I wanted to be a boss — not just clock in for someone else. Even in school, I was the friend always selling something — candy, juices, chargers — anything that taught me how to move with intention and create my own lane.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the founder of J.R Marketing, I built from the ground up after earning my Marketing degree from Albany State University. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, I’ve always been driven by creativity and a strong work ethic. Through J.R Marketing, I’ve had the opportunity to work with major brands like Talley & Twine, The Athlete’s Foot, Minute Maid Spiked, and even my alma mater.
Marketing has always been my outlet for creative expression. With a background in communications, production, and sales, I’ve learned how to turn my ideas into strategy—and that strategy into impact. From brand campaigns and influencer activations to social media and event marketing, I bring results-driven solutions that consistently leave my clients satisfied.
What excites me most is helping brands grow through authentic storytelling and elevated visuals. J.R Marketing isn’t just a business—it’s a movement built on hustle, heart, and real connection.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three impactful skills that have shaped my journey are networking, organization, and time management. In the early stages of building a business, one of the most important things to remember is that growth takes time and patience is key. Foundational habits like these, you don’t just build a business—you build a lasting impression.
Another lesson I’ve learned is the power of asking questions. It’s okay not to know everything—what matters is being willing to learn and seeking out the right people who can help you grow. You never know what rooms you’ll find yourself in, and more often than not, there are people who are genuinely willing to support your success. You just have to be open, prepared, and confident enough to show up.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
At J.R Marketing, collaboration is everything. I’m always looking to connect with photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and marketers with strengths in different areas. Working with like-minded creatives helps bring fresh ideas to life and take every project to the next level.
