Meet Jazmin Rodriguez

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jazmin Rodriguez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jazmin below.

Hi Jazmin, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Having been raised in a family with many Hispanic women who are strong-willed and confident helped to create the foundation for my confidence and self-esteem. The women in my family (mom, tias, and grandmother) all have strong characters and personalities, they always know what they want. Seeing how they carried themselves and stood firm in their words, taught me to carry myself like that in everything that I do. My mom always reminded me to embrace all of me no matter what others thought or said.
As I got older, I always remembered my mom saying that to me. When you are confident in yourself and your words, people tend to listen to you more and believe you. Not only do I carry this in my personal life but also in my business life. Being confident and believing in yourself can get you farther than you can ever imagine. With confidence, comes self-esteem, passion, and so many good things after that. I can proudly say that with the confidence that I was taught and built for myself, I have gotten farther in my business than I had imagined and have been presented with great opportunities.

At the end of the day, YOU are unique, and you should confidently embrace that no matter what.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I like to see myself as a free-spirited and creative individual who discovered my love for business at an early age and I am now the owner of Oh My Flan LLC. I express my creativity through my desserts and bring unique sweets to my clients. Oh My Flan is located in the heart of Miami and has serviced many locals for any event or party since 2018.

Oh My Flan serves a wide range of desserts, including Flan, Tres Leche, Arroz con Leche, fried flan bites, cupcakes, and more. I attend many markets in Miami, which has aided in the growth of my business and the addition of new clients. I cater to a variety of events, including weddings, baby showers, birthdays, anniversaries, and more. In addition to catering events, I also offer dessert stations, where I will design the table according to your preferences.

In addition to running a business, I am also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in advertising management and public relations at the University of Miami. Being a full-time student and business owner can get challenging at times, but it is so rewarding and fulfilling to be able to do what I love with such amazing support around me. I will always be endlessly grateful and appreciate all of my supporters and customers who have helped me along this sweet journey. I look forward to continuing to satisfy your sweet tooth on every occasion!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back at my journey, I have utilized these three things and still use them every day. The first thing is discipline. Motivation will not always be there but discipline will. There are days when you may not want to show up (Instagram, business, school, etc.) but when you have the discipline to stay on schedule and show up for your part, it is very rewarding. It is the little steps that lead to your goal.

The second thing is that you are a student. Whether you are in school or not, you are always learning every day. Owning my business has taught me so much and one thing is that I don’t know everything but I am always willing to learn something new. You are not an expert in every area of your life but that is okay because nobody is. As I like to tell myself, be a sponge and absorb what can benefit you and apply that to your life. Waking up and knowing that I am going to learn something new is so fulfilling.

The third but certainly still very important is networking. Before my business, I was always a very shy person (I still am sometimes) but having to talk to many people got me out of my shell. By talking to people you can get a better job, an amazing opportunity, and so much more. Networking doesn’t only apply to business owners but to everyone. As I always say, you never know who you are going to meet and where. One person can change your life completely.

These are skills that I have learned and improved along the way. Make small goals for yourself whether it’s to talk to a person in a store, ask questions to people knowledgable in an area you are interested in, to-do lists, or do anything that works for you. Remember, practice makes perfect.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Feeling overwhelmed and having anxiety attacks is all too familiar especially when running a business and doing school full-time but along the way, I have learned tips and tricks on how to combat that. The first thing I always do and suggest is to breathe and walk away for a second. Whether I am in the library for hours or in my kitchen, I always feel that I am running against time. Whenever that feeling gets too much, I will get up and walk away to just breathe. Having some water, a snack, or just getting some fresh air always helps me. I will also incorporate some box breathing to help me relax.

Another thing that helps me is to have a to-do list. Writing down what needs to be done from most important to least important has helped me to control that overwhelming feeling. Doing it this way takes the pressure off of your soldiers earlier in the day rather than leaving the most daunting tasks for the end of the day.

I also like to incorporate things that can help release my anxiety such as yoga, meditation, pilates, and dancing. Everyone has something that is therapeutic to them and incorporating small things in your daily life will help to keep those overwhelming feelings at bay. I suggest finding an outlet and incorporating that into your life. Always take care of your mental and physical.
