Meet Jazmine Stephens

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jazmine Stephens a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazmine, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

When it comes to me, I have to give thanks to God first because when I look back at the old “Jaz” I can honestly say I wasn’t this confident as I am now. Like any other person, I had a lot of insecurities and things that I had to do a lot of the inner work for. My confidence stems from a lot of things ,however, building my relationship with Jesus Christ has sealed the deal for me. How can I not be confident when God, himself, says that I’m more precious than jewels (Proverbs 31:10)?

Am I perfect?, Absolutely not, however I’m actively working to become the person that I want to be. Regardless, of how many people may be on similar journeys or doing the same thing, I know there’s only one me. As a Content Creator ( Jay Shant’e), there’s a lot of amazing/ talented creators who are on the same platforms and in the same space, however, I don’t compare my journey to theirs. Comparison is the thief of joy so what God has for me is for me and the audience that is for me will find me.

A lot of what I’m saying may sound very cliché but this is what is working for me. If I was to create a list of 10 things to improve/ maximize self confidence, below is what it would look like.

10 Steps to Achieve Confidence and Self-esteem:

1. Build and sustain a relationship with God
2. Prioritize yourself
3. Set Boundaries
4. Don’t settle
5. Don’t be afraid of being seen
6. Know your worth
7. Embrace gratitude
8. Face your fears
9. Consistency/ routines is key
10. Life is precious

*Bonus* – Family is a everything to me and play a huge role in the way that I am. Shout out to God for blessing me with the best parents and support system!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Hey! My name is Jazmine but everyone calls me Jaz! I started my content creation journey back in 2016 exiting my senior year of high school and beginning my freshmen year of college. With the influence of my friends/classmates I was always told that I should create a YouTube channel due to my personality. Prior to entering my beloved HBCU, Bethune-Cookman University, I was always searching YouTube like any eager freshmen to see what the hype was all about. So I started a series on YouTube called “College Vlogs”, which took my audience in a day in my life at an HBCU. At the time there weren’t a lot of creatives vlogging at my school and I didn’t realize the impact/ influence that I had on upcoming class because it was just for fun. Several times through my journey I would have students or classmates tell me how much they loved my videos or how I influenced them to attention an HBCU. This is around the time I discovered my love for content creation/marketing.

Fast forward, to many years later, I rediscovered my passion for content creation in re-loving and rediscovering myself. I’m continually growing my personal/professional brand and there’s so much in store. Within the past 3 months of getting back into content, I’ve been blessed with multiple brand deals & secured engagement from large brands.

Currently, I’m actively taking clients through Jays Consulting Marketing Agency on Instagram (@jaysconsulting_). Also, consistently creating content on all platforms: Jay Shant’e | (@jayshanteee).

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The road may not be easy but the journey to the destination is worth it! Learn to be content with rejection because it is Gods way of redirection and protection. What is meant for you no one can take it away. Looking back, I would say three qualities that were impactful in my journey is confidence, faith, and the willingness to continue to learn. Continue to be a student at your craft and you will see the fruits of your labor.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

I don’t have an ideal client because everyone who I work with are valuable, regardless of the size of their business or network. However, I do have an ideal person I’d love to collaborate with, which is Issa Rae. I admire her hard work and dedication to continue to enhance her community. From producing the #1 show on HBO Max ‘Insecure’ to creating her own Prosecco ‘Viarae Prosecco’ to restaurants and media production company the list goes on. She doesn’t allow anyone to put her in a box and continue to break the glass ceiling in male predominated workspaces.
