Meet Jazmyn Miller-Gibbs

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jazmyn Miller-Gibbs. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jazmyn below.

Jazmyn, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Imposter syndrome used to show up for me in all the quiet moments, right before presenting a design to a client or when I’d see other designers with bigger teams or flashier projects and start wondering if I was “doing enough.” What helped me overcome it wasn’t some overnight epiphany, but a gradual shift in how I defined success. I stopped comparing my behind-the-scenes to someone else’s highlight reel and started focusing on the value I was actually creating for real people, the homes that felt more lived-in, the clients who finally saw their personalities reflected in their spaces.

I also had to accept that growth and discomfort come as a pair. Every new project, every risk, every client who trusted me with their vision reminded me that I wasn’t faking it; I was learning, refining, and showing up with purpose. Confidence, I’ve learned, doesn’t mean never doubting yourself. It means trusting that you’ll rise to meet the moment, even when it stretches you.

These days, I use that same energy to pour back into others, mentoring newer designers and reminding them that expertise doesn’t arrive all at once. You build it, one design, one decision, and one brave step at a time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the founder and principal designer of Abode Above Interiors, a design studio built around the idea that color has power to shift energy, spark emotion, and tell your story without a single word. My work lives at the intersection of bold creativity and livable design. I help people reimagine their homes into spaces that feel elevated but never out of touch, colorful but deeply intentional. Whether it’s a full-home transformation or a curated digital design, every detail is chosen to reflect the person who lives there.

What excites me most is watching clients see themselves in their homes again. It’s that moment when they realize their space doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s; it can feel like them, fully. I’m constantly inspired by how design can influence confidence, clarity, and even daily joy. That’s what keeps me obsessed with what I do.

Right now, I’m expanding our digital offerings through Abode Above Colors, which includes designer-curated paint palettes and color fan keychains. It’s my way of making professional color guidance more accessible to anyone, anywhere. At its core, my brand is about empowerment, giving people the tools, the confidence, and the inspiration to design a life that looks as good as it feels.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three things that shaped my journey the most were resilience, curiosity, and clarity of vision.

Resilience mattered because entrepreneurship and design both come with a steady dose of uncertainty. Projects fall through, timelines shift, and creative ideas sometimes miss the mark. Early on, I had to learn to see those moments as information, not failure. My advice? Build your bounce-back muscle. Treat every challenge as data that helps you move smarter next time.

Curiosity has been my greatest teacher. I never stopped asking why: why a color works in one light but not another, why some spaces feel off even when they’re beautiful. That constant desire to understand gave me an edge. If you’re just starting out, stay hungry to learn. Read, watch, test, and get your hands dirty. Every experiment deepens your eye and your intuition.

And finally, clarity of vision. The moment I stopped chasing trends and started designing with intention, everything shifted. Your style, your process, and your voice are your signature; protect them. Be willing to evolve, but never at the cost of authenticity. The right clients and opportunities always find the designer who’s grounded in who they are.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Absolutely. Collaboration has always been at the heart of how I grow creatively and professionally. I’m especially interested in partnering with like-minded brands, artists, and creatives who share a love for bold, story-driven design, people who believe that color, texture, and storytelling can change how we experience our homes and the world around us.

I’m also open to connecting with contractors, photographers, and stylists who value craftsmanship, good energy, and a strong collaborative process. On the digital side, I’d love to work with educators, platforms, or design-focused companies that align with my mission to make professional design guidance more accessible and inclusive.

If you’re reading this and feel that spark of alignment, I’d love to hear from you. The best way to connect is through my website at www.abodeaboveinteriors.com or by email at [email protected]. I’d love to create something that moves people, visually, emotionally, and meaningfully with you.
