Jazmyne “Jazz”, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
I’ve always focused on delivering the highest quality in everything I do. Excellence speaks for itself and earns respect, regardless of background. By consistently providing top-notch baked goods and exceptional customer service, I’ve built a reputation that transcends any initial perceptions based on my appearance. Remaining true to myself has been crucial. I don’t try to conform to fit into a preconceived mold. Instead, I embrace my heritage, my story, and my style. This authenticity resonates with my customers and has become a core part of my brand identity. The business landscape is always evolving, and staying successful requires continuous learning and adaptation. I stay updated on industry trends, seek feedback, and am always willing to pivot when necessary. This adaptability ensures that I remain relevant and effective, even when I’m the only one in the room.

My brand, Sweets by Jazz LLC, is all about luxury, creativity, and authenticity. I believe in using high-quality ingredients and providing exceptional customer service. Each product is a reflection of my dedication to excellence and my love for baking.
As a cake artist and business owner, I also aim to create a space where diversity is celebrated and more voices are heard. Being a minority in this industry, I understand the importance of representation and strive to inspire others who look like me to pursue their passions.
I’m thrilled to share that I am continuously expanding my offerings. This year, I introduced cookies , which have been a hit. I’m also working on launching a new line of dessert tables, which will include a variety of mini cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and charcuterie boards, perfect for events of any size.
Additionally, I’m planning to host virtual baking classes to share my passion and techniques with a wider audience. These classes will cover everything from cake decorating basics to advanced cookie designs. It’s a way for me to connect with my community and inspire others to explore their creativity in the kitchen.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. Looking back on my journey as a cake artist and owner of Sweets by Jazz LLC, three qualities and skills stand out as being most impactful: creativity, perseverance, and business acumen. Creativity is the heart of my business. It’s what makes my cakes, cookies, bento cakes, and charcuterie boards unique and visually stunning. The ability to think outside the box and continuously come up with new designs and flavor combinations has set my brand apart. The journey hasn’t always been easy. There were times when things didn’t go as planned, from recipe failures to business challenges. Perseverance has been key in pushing through these obstacles and continually improving. Running a successful bakery requires more than just baking skills. Understanding the business side—marketing, finances, customer relations—has been crucial in growing Sweets by Jazz LLC. For those just starting out, remember that success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, dedication, and continuous learning.
