Meet Jean-philippe Pasquier

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jean-philippe Pasquier a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jean-Philippe, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Initially, I had a huge imposter syndrome in my position as a new artist. It was complicated for me to admit that I could be in an artistic process. It is thanks to the support of my friends and family that I was able to move from being an apprentice artist to an established artist. And now, when I decide to create a piece, it is for myself, for my artistic approach, not for the gaze of others. And that is a real evolution.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I was born in France and have been living in Miami for nearly eight years.
I started my artistic career a little over three years ago. I am part of an artistic movement called ‘Op Art’, or ‘Optical Art’. My works appear to be alive, as the perspective changes depending on the viewer’s point of view. Rather than offering a fixed, traditional vision of a painting, my creations invite a participatory experience.
I exhibit in the USA, mainly in Florida, and in Europe. I also have collectors in several countries.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Firstly, tenacity is essential for navigating your journey as an artist. Additionally, open-mindedness is crucial, especially for newcomers, as there’s a lot to learn. And, of course, a deep passion is indispensable.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am looking for partners, such as agents or galleries, to help sell my artwork. This would allow me to focus on my true strength: creating.
