We were lucky to catch up with Jeanette Dozier recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jeanette, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I’m not the most confident person I could be but as a makeup artist I feel invincible with my brushes in my hands. I’m a work in continual progress. I wok through my insecurities by speaking positive words, bible versus, or a good song in my mind and I remind myself how amazing of a human being I’ve become. I find it easy to pick myself apart with thoughts of what others see when they look like me, but I have to like what I see and I remind myself of the journey I’ve been on and how far I came and what I have learned so far.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an Master Makeup Artist that specializes in natural glam. I service brides, bridal parties, as well of anyone who just wants to add a spice to their face for any event. Everyone deserves to spoil themselves every now and then. The best feeling is when the client is shocked and pleased when I’m finished and some have cried. Bringing joy to my clients is the best feeling. I believe this is my ministry. In 2024 I will be offering group an individual classes for anyone who wants to apply their makeup on their own.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
meets the clients expectation. This is important for the client so that the became a constant client and they will refer you so your business will continue to grow. Any time you offer a service to the public you will encounter different personalities as well as not everyone communicates the same so its so important to have patience with everyone and even yourself. Its imperative that I’m able to address all concerns and questions asked so the entire experience is pleasant and satisfying for the client. This only solidifies a consistent client and more referrals.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Over this journey I have learned a lot about people and support. The ones I thought would be in my corner or would help were no where to be found. I wasn’t asking just for advice or their opinion but most just want to help or saw me as a threat. With that said I super blessed with some amazing friends that are more like family that supported me from the day I decided I wanted to chase my dream. They have loaned me money, let me use their vehicles/homes to further my passion. Teonia H., Angela W. Kia G. and Taneshia S. They are the reason I’m successful and I continue to better my passion and myself.
