Meet Jeanice Durrah

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jeanice Durrah a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jeanice, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I believe that overcoming imposter syndrome isn’t a one-time occurrence. We daily have to choose to defeat and silence the thoughts that tell us we don’t deserve the recognition, awards, or the seat in the room. There are many times when I don’t feel worthy to motivate or encourage others, but that’s not true. To overcome these thoughts, I feed myself daily the truth that I know comes from a solid foundation: God’s truth.

God’s truth teaches me to “set my thoughts on things that are true, honorable, and noble.” For example, when I feel like I’m not enough or I’m not qualified for the purpose on my life, I set my thoughts not on those lies but on what God says.

This is what God says:

1. “I am chosen.”
2. “I am the head and not the tail.”
3. “I am worthy.”
4. “God’s power is perfected in my weakness.”

To me, these things yell, “Show up!”

My part is to prepare well and show up. God’s part is to meet me there and do the rest.

This is how I consistently work to overcome the imposter syndrome. By reminding myself in every moment who my Father is and what that means for me as His daughter.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Jeanice Durrah, and I am the CEO and Founder of Jeanice Sherai, LLC.

My true joy and happiness are in family, nature, and travel. I am married to Victor Durrah, Jr, and we have one sweet daughter, Victory Durrah.

We get one life; let’s make it beautiful, healthy, and whole.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I believe perseverance, integrity, and consistency have been the most impactful on my journey. Owning your own business is not for the weak. You have to see your vision, even when, for everyone else, it is blurry. You must push past your mental battles and limited beliefs to keep pressing for your goal. That alone takes energy, strength, and consistency because sometimes you won’t feel like doing the needed work, even when it’s your vision.

I believe that my clients continue to book me because I operate with a level of integrity. My values matter and I desire to treat each person as the valuable human being that they are to this world. Treating others well, leaves a lasting impact that allows others to learn more about your services because of how you treat the people they will soon encounter or meet.

My advice is to take breaks to breathe and rest, pivot if needed, but don’t give up. Hold on to the vision but allow God to paint the picture. His way will not be our way nor His thoughts ours, but His plans are truly for our good.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

My number one obstacle currently is still myself. I am constantly and continuously doing the work needed to push past this current level and to the level God calls me. I am tackling my limiting beliefs, healing in the necessary places, and filling my mind with knowledge and wisdom daily. I know that eventually, I will reach the level of the vision God has given me, but I also know that even then, the climb continues. So, the most significant work I do to overcome is continuous work on myself.
