Meet Jeff Hulett

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jeff Hulett . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jeff, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
For me, I like to keep busy and active and have many irons in the fire. That could be songs I’m working on, fun projects with the kiddos or even work assignments that require creative thinking. It’s hard for me to sit still so this helps in keeping the creative flame lit and burning. Listening to music also helps. Ultimately, it’s about being open.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My profession is PR and communications, but my passion is music. As a small business owner with Jeff Hulett PR I pride myself on helping nonprofits in Memphis share their stories. I’ve been doing this work for more than 6 years and working for myself allows me to pursue other projects like writing and recording music and performing in my band. Just this last year I had a song placed in the show Single Drunk Female on Hulu. That would have never happened if I didn’t pursue my music passion.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Try to be positive. Being positive has led me to so many opportunities both professionally and musically. Kill people with kindness. Life is hard, being kind is not.
And ask questions. People love to share so let them. And hopefully you can learn something you didn’t already know.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Go outside, exercise, phone a friend or escape through a movie or TV show. Whatever you do, don’t stew in your own juices. Do something to get out of your head. Change of scenery is always a good strategy.
