We recently connected with Jeff Ronci and have shared our conversation below.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
A writer and visual artist for 40-plus years, I’ve seen my work published in books, magazines, and news outlets; aired on television and radio; and displayed in public institutions and private homes in South Florida. While I’ve considered myself primarily as a writer, I’ve devoted most of my time since 2019 to photoart, with some of my work available for browsing and purchase at my online gallery, CrazymOOn Photoart by Jeff Ronci at crazymoon.jeffronci.com. Along with my husband, I’m also a longtime human-rights and social-justice activist.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three qualities that had the greatest impact on my journey were creative discipline, critical curiosity (and passion!), and the ability to sit with discomfort.
Discipline mattered most. As a writer and artist, inspiration comes and goes—but showing up to the page or camera regularly, even when things felt uncertain or unfinished, allowed the work to evolve. I’ve learned that progress often looks like persistence, not perfection.
Critical curiosity helped me question assumptions—my own and others’—and dig deeper into the themes I explore. I believe strong creative work doesn’t just express, it interrogates. That’s how both craft and voice get sharper.
And finally, learning to sit with discomfort—whether in the form of doubt, critique, or ambiguity—was essential. It taught me to keep going even when the outcome wasn’t clear, and to trust that growth often happens in those in-between moments.
My advice to folks early in their creative journey: Don’t wait to feel ready. Begin, stay curious, and allow yourself to make imperfect work. The voice, the confidence, and the clarity come through doing, not waiting.
