We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jeffrey Vickers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jeffrey below.
Jeffrey, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I believe I willed my purpose into existence. There came a point in my life when I had a paradigm shift in the way I see life and my function in it. I believe I’m a spiritual being having a human experience for the sole purpose of finding out who I
am. The beauty lies in the fact that we can all manifest who we believe we are. While at the lowest point within the valley
of our journey, I think we all crave to be something more. However, not many of us BELIEVE we are something more or
worth something more.
The moment true belief within ourselves occurs, freedom occurs. Once I realized the painful experiences I endured actually prepared me for a journey of self-love, I began to love others. I began to see the beauty in the next person’s struggle; I began to see our species as one big family–with all of us still finding our way. I allowed my substance use disorder to be the “status quo” part of my story, while Recovery was the catalyst.
For the rest of my journey, I’ll focus on manifesting greater versions of myself in order to continue to serve the Recovery community, in one way or another. My pain as a drug addict was needed in order for me to love myself into being a Recovery author and advocate.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Currently, I’m employed as a Facilitator at “The Zone,” in Marietta, GA. It’s a Recovery Support Organization. I facilitate a re-entry program that’s sponsored by the D.A.’s office in Cobb County, GA. It’s a 10-week program for those who want to sharpen their skills for re-entry into the workforce. I’m in my third session of the program. I actually rewrote (30) lessons. My interns seem to be very appreciative of the material.
I love what I do. I love inspiring and motivating people to see the potential they have. The interns are initially chosen from The Accountability Courts. If seats are left for a session then we pick prospects who frequent “The Zone.”
In every session, the majority of the interns have been in Recovery. This warms my heart because I’m directly affecting the lives of people from my Recovery community. That’s my purpose, so I guess I’m living the dream.
My focus is on helping people recreate themselves. I honestly never say this outright, but that’s my focus. I’ve learned it’s
just not possible to attain the life we want if we don’t change who we are or recreate ourselves. The trick is getting people in Recovery to believe this is possible, for them. It’s easy to shout someone else out for their growth. But it gets a bit difficult when it’s time for us to work on ourselves to make the progress we see in others.
In my Recovery family, we’re all at different points of growth, but growth is possible. It’s important to note that once drug use stops, the work begins. This is the opportunity for people to recreate themselves in a positive manner, just like they had the power to recreate themselves into substance abusers, from the versions they were prior to their drug addiction. It’s a simple concept really, but difficult for many to grasp.
I believe we become who we believe we are; and what we believe we’re worth. By redesigning our self-belief system, we can use our addiction as a catalyst to become whomever we want to be. If we get past the pain of our trauma, we’ll heal. That healing usually manifests as love of self, gratitude for life lessons (that showed up as trauma), and compassion for the next person currently experiencing what we’ve conquered. But this is only possible for those who choose to proactively recreate themselves. And that is only possible for those who believe they are worthy of such a change.
It is my hope that more people in Recovery will learn to believe in themselves, more than the athlete or entertainer they admire. It is my hope that more people in Recovery will learn to seek out their worth.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The movie “The Secret” changed my life. Once I started studying “The Law of Attraction,” my life changed!!!
I’ve been very cognizant of patterns in my life since I was a child. It’s actually fascinating to see how situations are woven together in our lives to produce outcomes. But it takes training or a natural gift to see those patterns, let alone the ones that are pivotal for our journey. When I looked over my past drug addiction, it became clear to me that the more I focused on a thing, the more that “thing” started popping up in my life.
I was aware of this before watching the movie. But after watching, my biggest takeaway was: “Thoughts become Things.” That’s when I realized I had been “manifesting” my life, just not a life of quality. Since I was in Recovery, I was given another chance at life. I decided to start purposely manifesting a life of quality. I believed I was worthy enough to manifest this kind of life since I’d already shown I was worthy of my past existence. It was time to recreate myself…
Since then I’ve focused on three core principles:
1. Hacking the Subconscious: I record positive affirmation programs and merge them with 528 Hz. melodies. One program pertains to who I AM (“I AM the manifestation of wealth. I AM a multi-millionaire. Opportunities for wealth gravitate toward me because I AM a magnet for wealth.”) I have another program that focuses on an eternal healthy life. Since I use Apple Music I can add these to my “Library” and have them run on repeat through the night while I’m asleep. Doing so reprograms my subconscious belief system. Our brain has to be in Theta brainwave for hypnosis. This is the same brainwave we enter during light sleep, meditation, and the R.E.M. dream state. I’m basically hypnotizing myself to be a new person. I suggest anyone reading this to attempt this for themselves for at least 6-12 months to see a measurable improvement in how they perceive themselves.
2. Visualizing my Greatness: These days I choose to embrace the emotions of future experiences, instead of just reflecting emotionally on past experiences. This alone is a paradigm shift for most people. By embracing the emotions I want to feel in a future event, I actually draw that event to me. “Seeing” myself attain my goal while feeling a high level of gratitude ignites my mind to imprint this vision, while my heart is ignited to feel this vision. This is manifesting. I suggest anyone reading this to attempt this for themselves for at least 6-12 months to see a measurable improvement in how they perceive themselves.
3. Meditating: When we learn how to slow down the chatter of our thoughts, we peel back the curtain to our subconscious. Establishing a meditative routine will allow one to get to the core of who they are. My biggest takeaway from meditation has been experiencing a state of universal connectivity with all life. So, in essence, I’ve come to realize that I am everyone and no one at the same time. I suggest anyone reading this to attempt this for themselves for at least 6-12 months to see a measurable improvement in how they perceive themselves.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
I’m currently developing (2) programs: Coaching and Consulting.
The coaching program is primarily for people in Recovery, but anyone can benefit from an empowerment program. My lessons will consist of materials that will guide clients to learn the (3) core principles that have made me successful.
The consulting is for those in Recovery, who have aspirations of publishing independent books. Many people in Recovery have amazing stories to tell but don’t know how to start. I just completed my first project for 2 women who have wanted to publish their book for over ten years. I successfully took their manuscript and turned it into a paperback and ebook, by editing, formatting, designing the cover, creating the Amazon Author profile, and a few other things. These women feel empowered and motivated to produce more material for our community.
