Meet Jen Cushman

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jen Cushman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jen below.

Jen , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

For most of my life, I have had two main areas of interest: Art and Spirit. Discovering, learning, integrating, practicing and upleveling my knowledge and skills for both mixed-media art AND all things metaphysical (spirituality and energy) have been my lifelong pursuit.

Finding my purpose has been a slow process for me that’s changed, morphed and grown over the years as I have done the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical work of learning (and now knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt) who I am.

Finding my purpose began in childhood with awareness of my natural gifts and talents and then pursing those interests from a place of curiosity and a desire for deeper understanding.

When you find what you love to create and what you’re naturally good at then you are beginning your path to purpose.

For me, this began in high school when I discovered that I love writing and communication and that I’m fascinated by psychology and the human mind. And because I’ve always been naturally empathetic and intuitive as a child, I’ve always sought to understand myself and how I naturally knew, visioned and experienced mystical things that were outside the ordinary realms of life.

I was raised in a blue-collar family with love and attention and LOTS of limiting beliefs about life. Mystical experiences and open-minding thinking were not discussed. In fact, from as long as I can remember I was told that I had an “active imagination” and was a “sensitive artist” because I’ve been a creative since birth.

Being raised as essentially an only child (older siblings left home when I was one and five years old) I spent a lot of time alone reading, writing, drawing, disassembling and reassembling costume jewelry and objects.

What I have come to realize now that I am in my 50s is that Art and Spirit go hand-in-hand for me. As a career, I have traveled and taught art, authored books, been a guest on various morning television shows for craft segments, filmed online art education, helped run an independent craft company…basically, all the things. During the time of this outward-facing work, I was also turned inward deeply discovering, learning and practicing my intuition and energy healing work and my connection to Spirit.

In 2020 when the pandemic hit, I did a pivot and opened a new business doing intuitive readings and distance Reiki. I did more advance trainings in neuroscience, communication, mental and emotional release and hypnotherapy to become an Intuitive Coach.

My purpose is to use my empathic talents and natural intuition along with all the certifications and tools in my toolbox to guide my clients – the creatives, healers and feelers – to do the necessary release work so they, too, can know who they are and what their deepest level values are so they can truly be (and live!) their authentic lives.

Living 100 percent authentically according to one’s own values (not society’s, not family’s or cultural expectations) is what allows the highest vibrations of love, joy, happiness and PURPOSE to shine through.

Life has many challenges. Lots of negative “stuff” happens to us throughout our years of living. Our brains do some interesting things to protect us. Negative emotions create unconscious limiting beliefs and limiting decisions and we run our patterns without even thinking about it or knowing why we do the things we do.

The beautiful and hopeful part of living is that there are many healing modalities available to us in our modern times. And there are a lot of people willing to do the work and share their talents to help elevate humanity as a whole!

Discovering my purpose has been a long, winding, often painful and extraordinarily beautiful pursuit. Nothing has been wasted and everything has led me to the person I am today, the experiences I create, the relationships I continue to nurture and the talented people whom I help.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a seeker and pursuer of truth and knowledge when it comes to the human spirit, mind and emotions as well as how human beings are energetic sparks of divine light. My work is a combination of Art + Spirit and I guide people to hear and know the whispers of their own souls.

What does this mean in practical terms? I believe in the mind/body/soul connection and that we are all beautiful, complicated humans doing the best we can each and every day through life’s continuous ups and downs. We are more alike than we are different. There are proven science-based reasons why and how our minds and bodies work the way they do. To quote Spiderman, “with great knowledge comes great responsibility”. I believe in personal empowerment.

I help people dissolve the old recurring thoughts, stories and patterns that keep them stuck by using spiritual knowledge, energy and integrative tools to release and heal their problems. We also have creative fun doing it.

People often ask me how I stay so positive, and many people are skeptical when I respond to their questions. My truth is that because of my extra-ordinary experiences with my guides since birth, I have an outlook and a mindset that is “outside the box.” My energy gravitates to artists, creatives, empaths, highly sensitives and deep feelers and theirs to mine. Co-creation at its finest.

I have a long list of services and offerings on my website at www.soulstirmagic.com and if there is anything you’re interested in that may not be listed, ping me (preferably by email). If its about metaphysics, energy, art, psychology or healing modalities I’ve probably done it or know someone who does,

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Curiosity – Follow your curiosity and it will not lead you astray. For multi-passionate people it can seem (to yourself and others) like you’re hopping from one thing to another. You might get well-meaning advice from people who care about you to “focus on one thing” or “stick to one thing”. I do believe it comes from a place of love and genuine concern for your wellbeing and I’ve come to believe that “muggles” (aka “normal folks”) don’t comprehend the depth of naturally creative thinkers. We ARE different from the norm and our beautiful freakiness is light in the darkness and magic in the mundane.

2. Awareness – Sensitivity and creativity are superpowers. Own it!

3. Be a seeker and a lifelong learner – have fun popping off from one thing to another because gaining knowledge is never wasted. Do remember that true mastery takes time and practice. To be effective and get results, you need to do more than simply enjoy your natural curiosity and desire to know yourself. You must take action to obtain the knowledge AND put it to use. Mastery is the continual practice and refinement of your skills and talents. You’re going to fumble a lot and that’s how it works. There is no failure only feedback. Take the feedback and grow from it.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’ve spent the past four years since the pandemic diving deep 1:1 with my clients to create real, transformative change in their lives. I would like to collaborate with my creatives, healers and feelers peeps to get the word out about how sensitivity is a superpower and how creatives are the ones who have always been (and will always) be wayshowers and changemakers. We are more important now than any other time in history. I love writing articles, being on podcasts and co-creating unique and fun things to bring attention to personal empowerment and creative freedom. The best and easiest way to contact me is email: [email protected] or leave a note on my website in the contact me form. In love and light – Jen
