Meet Jen Hill

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jen Hill. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jen , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I like helping people. I thought I could do this by easing their stress and anxiety when it comes to moving. I moved across the country six years ago and experienced that anxiety and stress myself while preparing my home to sell. This relatability helps me connect with my clients. Along with assurance and patience. I’ve always had an eye for design, and when it comes to staging, it comes naturally for me. Again, I just want to help people.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Home Stager and Interior Stylist. I have a degree in Graphic Design but have always had an interest in Interior Design through the years. When I moved out to Colorado in 2018 from the Midwest, Home Staging seemed to make sense to me. I then became professionally certified in home staging, redesign, and also a color consultant. And created Denim & Duke. My two favorite things, Duke- my 14 pound cockapoo and mostly silent partner, and Denim- I’ve been told my closet resembles a GAP store. You can NEVER have enough denim!. My business has grown exponentially. A few years ago I had an amazing opportunity to be an in-house Stager with RE/MAX OF BOULDER and Elevate in Louisville. It is such a fantastic group to be affiliated with. I feel privileged and appreciate the team so much. By the way, I am not exclusive to RE/MAX OF BOULDER, I do stage for many other realtors throughout the region. I am currently expanding my inventory and I’m now collaborating with another incredibly talented Stager from the Midwest-Jena Tack. This will allow Denim & Duke to be even more competitive and reach more clients as well. We really pride ourselves on unique and original stagings. Also making a connection with our clients whether it’s with the realtor, homeowner or both and putting them at ease during this difficult process.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe my skill of relatability and compassion with my clients is most impactful in my journey to becoming a successful Home Stager. A lot of people just don’t take the time to hear the stories and see the pictures the homeowners have in their spaces. It’s a difficult time to pack it all up and move on. It’s one of my favorite parts of being a stager and doing in-home consults with the homeowners. My advice to up-and-coming home stagers-enjoy the process and getting to know people. The staging and styling is fun but making a connection and creating partnerships is truly meaningful.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
My particular challenge these days I am facing is growing pains for Denim & Duke. We have the business and the clientele. Now it’s a matter of expanding. Leasing storage space is expensive along with delivery/transportation and hiring help. I am truly grateful for all of the successes and my partnerships with so many amazing realtors. There is a lot to learn when it comes to the process of expansion. But I know it will be beneficial in the long run.
