Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jen Martin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jen, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Resilience is a skill I learned through my life by watching my mom lead by example and through personal experiences. I watched my mom go back to college as a single parent and become a school teacher. She worked hard to give my brother and myself a great life, but I also knew I would need to work hard to be able to attend college and make a life for myself. I worked hard to get scholarships through college, I learned resilience serving a church mission and learning a foreign language for 18 months, and I continued to learn resilience as I put myself through graduate school and finished my thesis with a baby and a second one on the way. All my life experiences were preparing me to persevere through the challenging moments and the many lessons learned while becoming an entrepreneur and business owner.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I started Reset Your Nest, Utah’s leading professional home organizing company in 2020. My husband had lost his job and I had been out of the workforce raising my 4 children for the previous 10 years. I had always dreamed of putting my passion and skill for organizing to work, and felt strongly the the moment had arrived when hardship pushed me off the ledge. I started to get the word out about Reset Your Nest. I worked on my instagram account, designed a website, and learned how to deliver a superior service of creating beautifully curated systems for any lifestyle and transforming spaces in a matter of hours. My business grew quickly and by the end of 2020 I had hired and trained a team of organizers to join me on projects where we could tackle spaces more quickly.
I love helping others find peace and calm in their homes. It is my pleasure to help others love where they live and to make it beautiful as well. I love sharing all I have learned about organizing and creating systems on my blog and on Instagram @reset_your_nest.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
3 qualities that impacted my journey the most were 1- Having resilience when things didn’t go well. I turned every setback and failure into a growth opportunity and learned so much about what didn’t work which helped me to identify the things that DID work.
2- Staying in my lane. It is so easy to compare and I found the greatest growth on insatgram and in my business when I would be laser focused on MY business, MY ideas, My creativity, and not worry about what anyone else around me was doing.
3- Having a spirit of generosity. While I have always wanted to be a savvy business owner, there are many times that being generous has helped my business to grow. Creating real relationships and connections with people with no ulterior motive other than to support and uplift has helped to propel the growth of Reset Your Nest. I have tried to be available to attend speaking engagements, collaborate with other small businesses, give advice freely, and just put forth positive energy.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I love collaborating with anyone in adjacent fields to the Professional Home Organizing Industry: Interior Designers, Home Builders, Closet Companies, Realtors, Moving Companies, etc, I love connecting with their clients and enhancing their clients’ experiences. Professional Organizing is still a relatively unknown industry and I have found that awareness is our biggest challenge. Having a professional organizers help families as they move can be a life changing experience for those who want to have a fresh start in a space that has systems.
