Meet Jen Morris

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jen Morris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jen below.

Jen , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I embarked on my first pregnancy bright-eyed and horribly naive. I thought I was as prepared as I could be. I read some books. Took the childbirth classes. Did the CPR certification. Practiced diapering.

I even TAUGHT some prenatal nutrition workshops while my daughter happily sat on my bladder kicking away in my belly.

And then she was born and I felt exhausted, emotional, overwhelmed, irritated, and even angry….for MONTHS.

I kept waiting for things to get better. I kept thinking my symptoms would magically disappear.

And when I came close to beating up a stroller one day in the parking lot of an Old Navy because I couldn’t figure out how to open it (don’t worry….my daughter was asleep and blissfully unaware), I realized that I wasn’t doing so well.

I started researching and learning what REALLY happened to my body during pregnancy and childbirth.

And while I was excited to finally have some insight, I was also PISSED.

WHY THE HECK DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS???

I quickly discovered that most people don’t know this stuff.

Like that your GUT changes during pregnancy and doesn’t just magically get better once the baby is born.

That your BRAIN can SHRINK by nearly 5% and studies have shown that this can last for several years post childbirth.

We need to know not only WHY it happens but more importantly, HOW to address it so our health doesn’t go down the toilet while we work our butts off to take care of our kids.

During my research, I learned so much that truly turned things around for me and I want to pay that forward.

So I’m here to help EDUCATE, EMPOWER and EQUIP moms with knowledge and tools so you can finally start to feel better and LIVE BETTER.

I believe when moms FUEL their bodies and brains, they IGNITE their purpose and become unstoppable. ✨

Our kids, community, country and, dare we say, all of civilization needs moms to be LIT UP, MENTALLY FIT and full of LIFE so we can go out and create the massive change that needs to happen.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I recently launched The Renegade Motherhood Podcast, a real and raw show where I share my own journey of breaking free from the conventional norms of postpartum life and motherhood. Each episode is short and sweet but full of info that not enough people are talking about for postpartum moms. I’m committed to debunking the myths surrounding maternal mental health and postpartum challenges along with sharing insights on gut and brain health, systemic failures, identity and more.

In early 2024, I’ll be launching my new community, the Renegade Motherhood Society, where I’ll be offering communal nutrition and mental wellness coaching and building a community of fellow moms committed to prioritize their wellbeing so we can create the change we want to see in the world.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The biggest things I’ve learned during my entrepreneurial and motherhood journey is learning to embrace the messiness and unknown and asking for help. My postpartum experience taught me that I could only do the best I could do with the information and resources I had available at the time. There was so much I didn’t know and I had to balance being ok with the unknown but also knowing when I needed support from my spouse, from babysitters, from friends and therapists and other coaches. I’ve also leaned in to trusting my own instincts more both as a mom and as a business owner. It’s normal for things to evolve and in the past, I’ve resisted it and spent too much time doing things the way I think i should vs how I truly KNOW is the right next step for me. I’ve spent the last few years learning how to listen and trust myself better.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
As a mom of two running my own business, I am often wearing a lot of hats and not ashamed to admit that I get overwhelmed. I’ve learned to let go of the crap that doesn’t have to get done and outsource as I’m able. Often times the house is a mess or clean laundry sits in baskets for a week before it’s put away but time with my kids and for myself are more important. I’m also become more committed to my fitness routine. It’s not perfect but getting to the gym or taking a 20-minute walk does wonders when I’m feeling overwhelmed or unfocused.
