Jen , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
When it comes to work ethic, some of my earliest memories are from when I was a kid going with my Mom to pick up my Dad from work or hanging out with my Mom at her job. At a very early age I saw how hard both my parents worked at their jobs and at home. It was instilled early on to work hard for your family and for the things you want in life. I’ll be honest, while I did know and hold this value close, I didn’t apply this until later in life. Before my Dad passed away in 2005, I didn’t care about work the way I do now. I was 21, working random restaurant jobs and going to class when I wanted. A bit of a slacker for sure. It wasn’t until I turned 30 that my thoughts around work ethic really changed. I took a while and lots of healing to understand the value and meaning in my adult life. I now take pride in my work life, I work hard and I truly enjoy what I do. I love seeing the outcome of my hard work so I continue to press on and do the best I can one day at a time.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My work life and business operate on very opposite ends. I love my career in HR and plan to grow in this area, but I have such a great passion and adore my little Potions by Jen business. I get to call it MINE and that alone is so special & means so much to me. Creating oil perfumes & potions is truly magical and I am always seeking new ideas & ways to show my creative side. I get to incorporate my spirituality into my business and that too makes it so valuable & fulfilling.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I look back to where it all started, my biggest questions were, how do I start? Can I even do this? Will people even like me or my brand? Now, I can answer these questions. First, just do it! Create that first product, listen to your intuition, let it pull on your creative strings. Yes, you can do this!! Think about all the products out there and the people behind them all, I’m sure they had the same questions. And that last question, some people will love you and your product, some people will hate it all. But remember, it’s all okay! Learn to accept this early on and do what you love with good intention. The right people will follow and will always show their love & support.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
For me, the most impactful thing my parents did was…love me. Love for who I am, for who I want to be, to see me grow and figure out life. My Dad always told us to “dream big” and my Mom has shown me the greatest support and continues to do so much for me in my life. I am forever grateful for them both. While my Dad was on this earth, he always wanted the best for my siblings and I. So, I’d say love has been the most impactful thing in my life.
