Meet Jen Sinconis

We were lucky to catch up with Jen Sinconis recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jen, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

In our post-covid society, we have found that there is a lack of human connection and in-person experience. We were tired of paying high prices for restaurant experiences that consistently left us disappointed. After many lengthy conversations about what is lacking in our community, neighbors Laura Hernandez and Jen Sinconis agreed that it is all about connection. There are no local spots like “Cheers”, where everyone knows your name, where people meet, talk and connect, where there aren’t tv’s blaring from each wall and where everyone is accepted and welcomed.

There were no community hubs like this, until now…
Turquoise was built with the mission of providing a wine community, and our customers have eagerly agreed that this is what they were missing in their lives.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Turquoise is unique in that we provide not only product and service, but experience. In our post-covid society, we have found that there is a lack of human connection and in-person experience. Turquoise was built with the mission of providing a wine community, and our customers have eagerly agreed that this is what they were missing in their lives.

Turquoise is:

A wine bar – featuring boutique wines made by small-lot winemakers, each with a unique story and delicious product.
A bottle shop – we sell wines you won’t find in your big box stores. Wines made naturally, product that you can feel good about purchasing.
An education resource – we love wine, and we love teaching about wine! Join us for regular tastings and classes to learn more about wine.
An experience – we welcome winemakers and wine reps for tasting events, pairings and catered dinners.
An event space – we host events of all sizes, including corporate events and private parties.
A wine club – join our monthly club and experience rare wines, special events, and community gatherings.
An experience through travel – Turquoise Travel will lead group excursions through domestic and international wine destinations.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three main keys to our success have been:

1. Find business partners with complimentary talents – and let them push the boundaries of their expertise! Our business backgrounds are vastly different, but when we pull all of these skills together it makes us unstoppable.

2. Be willing to change, FAST! We assess our successes and opportunities every month, and we don’t hesitate to make adjustments to our business plan to continually improve and provide the best customer experience.

3. Final multiple review streams. Make sure that your business is set to weather any storm that might come your way by developing a series of multiple revenue streams. For us, our main business is a wine bar, but we are also a bottle shop, we have a wine club, we organize wine travel around the world, and we lead small business consulting for women-owned businesses.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Turquoise Wine Bar is franchising!
The ideal franchise owner is someone who wants to work in the shop, learn about wine and educate your customers on this fantastic product, and build relationships within the community. Turquoise has become a quick success because of the people behind the bar – we are the neighborhood “cheers”, and this builds an unparalleled level of customer loyalty.

This is the perfect opportunity an energetic wine-lover (or wine-loving couple) to run a location with a few part time people for support. You will typically work 5 days a week with 12-8pm being a typical shift. As the business owner, you are the face of this community wine bar. It will be up to you to be a gracious host and build connections and establish a wine community in your area.
You will need to be able to pour wine and beer, accurately describe wines and be the “storyteller” for what you are featuring, make food and serve your guests. Your goal will be to build relationships and create your own “cheers” where customers are known by you and eventually also by each other.
We are in the hospitality industry and the great part of the business is you have the opportunity to create great experiences and make people happy, who wouldn’t want to be doing that every day!?
