Meet Jen Sugermeyer

We were lucky to catch up with Jen Sugermeyer recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jen, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
One of my greatest assets is that I DON’T look like anyone else! Why on earth would I want to fit in or be like everyone else? I’m a 6’1″ female and you’ll often see me walk in a room with 4″ heels. How does one get chosen for a promotion, win business, get noticed for anything if you look like everyone else?! You don’t. You have to stand out from the rest. I love who I am and I would NEVER want to look like everyone else. So, if you have a unique trait that is visible to you- own that! You’re already a step ahead of the others.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I help people unleash their confidence through their minds and skin care products I offer through my company, ATA Cosmetics. After a long corporate career as a leader in Information Technology, I pivoted and began speaking into my purpose- helping others elevate their lives so they can elevate their life experience. ATA Cosmetics started as a better way to apply makeup. No more sponges, brushes, and fingers that are unhygienic and waste a ton of makeup. I’ve coupled the the benefits of jade with a daily routine of applying liquid products to the face (lotions, creams, foundation, concealer, blush, etc.). I patented the ergonomical makeup applicator spoon (Alta) and due to the enthusiasm of the product, began building out other products that would help people feel more confident in the skin they’re in. Stay tuned for more all natural products that fit your budget and focus on making a better tomorrow, today!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1) Being an entrepreneur is not a straight line. 2) Not everyone is going to see your vision and you may even get some haters.
3) Hearing NO is normal!!

What advice would I give to navigate these? Stay in your lane and stay focused. Don’t let others get to you, everyone is going to have an opinion. Not everyone will see your vision- that’s why it was given to you to execute. The minute you let people get to you- you hand over your power. Make the choice to rise above. NO is normal. Haters are everywhere. Pivots will happen. Just know these, accept them, and move powerfully forward!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
