We were lucky to catch up with Jen Summers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jen, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
As an established bra fitter and business owner, I’ve learned to be most effective by listening to our community and focusing on what is the most positive move I can make to provide the greatest impact.
We strive to encourage, empower, and support all clients who come to Story Essentials for bra fittings, curated shopping, or lingerie guidance. The most successful thing we can do for them is listen. Providing a safe space for them allows us to help them the best we can in that moment of their life.
While we provide a positive experience for them, we are opening the door for us to grow and adapt with our community to continue to serve them as their lives evolve.

A bra fitter since 2007, my experience in the lingerie industry has guided me into an incredible life fulfilled by engaging, encouraging, and empowering women to embrace their individual body through well fitting lingerie.
At Story Essentials, a personal bra fitting should ignite confidence, beauty, and power and each day I strive to provide a memorable and positive experience with each client. As a mom of a young daughter, I’m super passionate about starting the conversation of educating the youth on body confidence, embracing who you are, and changing the narrative and stigma of lingerie into one of incredibly empowering positivity!
Story Essentials was just voted Best Lingerie in the Valley by Phoenix Magazine and will be presenting a curated 30+ look runway show at Scottsdale Fashion Week on September 29th!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three incredibly important and impactful qualities are compassion, communication, and dedication.
The best advice I could give to those starting on this journey would be to respect personal and business boundaries, have the courage to fail and the ability to learn from it, and never forget why you started in the first place.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
An ideal client is any person who wants to feel as confident as possible through perfect fitting lingerie. Someone who desires to not only look their best but to feel their most empowered. When you feel your best, you exude confidence and positive energy and that is a very powerful tool!
