We recently connected with Jenn Chen and have shared our conversation below.
Jenn, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
That’s an interesting question – when I got into photography it was all for the creativity and it never occurred to me that keeping the creativity alive was something I’d even have to consider!
My favorite way is to collaborate with other local photographers or other creatives! I recently had been wanting to do this maternity session up on this dreamy hill top swing. I found a mom who was excited to model for me using some of my client closet dresses. Then I invited another photographer friend of mine along!
Not only did I get to create something beautiful that I’d been dreaming of, I got to bounce ideas off another photographer. We laughed together, learned together, and made beautiful art!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I actually just opened my own studio a few months ago! It had been something I’d been dreaming of for years, and this year I decided to take the leap!
I love working one on one with kids, and I seem to have a superpower for getting toddlers to open up and give me those genuine smiles their parents know and love – so it seemed like a great fit! I photograph families and newborns in my studio as well. But I get so many bookings for children’s portraits – just what I wanted!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always looking to work with other creatives or entrepreneurs. I have been wanting to expand more into branding photography and am actually looking for new brands that might benefit from my services. I would love to work with a brand that is new, but has a strong sense of identity, but hasn’t yet invested in formal branding photos!
