Meet Jenna Biancavilla

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jenna Biancavilla a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenna, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
I am a female entrepreneur running companies in two traditionally male-dominated industries. At 29, I founded Pearl Capital Management, a financial planning powerhouse managing $150 million in assets. Later, I ventured into tech with Svvy, aiming to transform financial landscapes and empower women.

Navigating the finance industry hasn’t been easy with the countless moments I found money-driven men attempting to take advantage of me because I came across as too nice. There were unfounded dismissive remarks and assumptions about my capabilities throughout my early career that felt like an uphill battle. However, these encounters ultimately fueled my determination to disrupt outdated practices.

Pearl Capital Management’s success is a testament to breaking barriers. We prioritize client well-being over corporate gains, reshaping the financial sector’s ethos.

The technology company I founded with my sister, Svvy, emerged from witnessing unethical practices, sparking a personal mission to empower individuals—especially women—to seize financial control.

Looking different from the typical advisor or tech founder comes with skepticism and hurdles. My advice is to maintain a positive, mission-focused mindset. Turning obstacles into motivation and leveraging what makes us different can be our secret to success. Being the token younger woman in rooms dominated by older men taught me resilience, to stand up for myself, and the power of diverse perspectives.

Our differences are strengths; diversity drives innovation.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Jenna Biancavilla, and my work spans two transformative ventures: Pearl Capital Management and Svvy.

Pearl Capital Management, a female-led financial planning firm, manages over $150 million in assets. What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to our clients’ financial well-being. We prioritize personalized strategies, ensuring each client receives tailored financial solutions to meet their unique goals. Our ethos revolves around trust, transparency, and putting clients first.

Svvy, co-founded by my sister and me, carries a passionate mission to empower women financially. It’s at the forefront of revolutionizing the financial services industry by enabling women to vote with their dollars against predatory, high-commission salespeople. This platform is dedicated to empowering individuals—especially women—in taking control of their financial futures. Through innovative technology, Svvy offers accessible tools, knowledge, and resources, making financial empowerment comprehensive and attainable.

I’m most excited about the potential for positive change within these industries. I’m driven by the opportunity to challenge the status quo, advocating for fair, ethical practices that prioritize individuals’ financial empowerment and well-being. Breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for people to navigate their financial lives confidently fuels my passion.

Both Pearl Capital Management and Svvy are continually evolving. We’re focused on expanding our reach and impact, fostering greater inclusivity and accessibility within financial services and the financial technology sector. Additionally, there are upcoming events geared toward empowering individuals through education, tools, and community engagement.

I’m thrilled about the journey ahead, the possibilities for growth, and the chance to make a meaningful difference in people’s financial lives.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out for more details or updates on our upcoming events and launches!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities and skills have been instrumental in my success: resilience, adaptability, and a continuous thirst for learning.

Resilience has been crucial. The ability to persevere through setbacks, skepticism, and obstacles has allowed me to stay focused on my goals despite challenges. My advice to those starting their journey is to develop resilience by reframing failures as learning opportunities. Embrace setbacks as chances for growth, learning, and resilience-building. This mindset shift will enable you to bounce back stronger from setbacks.

Adaptability is another key quality. In rapidly changing industries, being adaptable is essential. Embrace change and be willing to pivot strategies, ideas, or approaches when necessary. Embrace a flexible mindset and seek opportunities to learn new skills or adapt to new situations. Being adaptable will not only help navigate unexpected challenges but also foster innovation and growth.

Continuous learning has been foundational. In dynamic industries like finance and technology, staying updated with the latest trends, regulations, and innovations is crucial. My advice is to adopt a lifelong learning mindset. Seek knowledge through books, courses, mentors, and industry events. Stay curious, ask questions, and never stop seeking to expand your knowledge base. It’s this hunger for learning that can set you apart and keep you ahead in your journey.

To those starting out, I encourage you to embrace resilience in the face of challenges, cultivate adaptability to navigate change, and prioritize continuous learning as a pathway to growth and success. These qualities will serve as pillars for your journey and help you thrive in any industry.
