We recently connected with Jenna Garcia and have shared our conversation below.
Jenna, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose by overcoming my own struggles with Autism and seeing others have the same issues and things to overcome. Finding myself and accepting who I am as a person has helped me find my purpose and passion in helping others on the spectrum. I love to help others and their families with my parent coaching.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am Jenna Garcia, a 24-year-old autistic individual who wants to help others on the spectrum. I have worked extremely hard to beat the odds and statistics when it comes to people on the spectrum. I live independently, am married, I own my own business and work as a registered behavioral technician through the week. There are so many limits put on people and I’m here to tell all my clients to stop listening to them and go where they want to and at the pace they want to go. Different doesn’t mean less, it truly just means different and that’s okay. I have worked in ABA for 7 years and the more I learned the more I realized how much support parents needed but don’t have access to. There are places that will work with your kid or that you can send them to but there isn’t anywhere that will work with you, the main caregivers, to help you through the process and support you as the parent on how to better understand your child!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Having a true passion for what I am doing has helped me keep my drive throughout the process; because the process of creating your own business and all of the back end stuff is exhausting but having a passion about what you are doing helps get through the hard and intimidating parts.
Being able to ask for help is a needed skill I had to learn to be okay with utilizing. You’re never going to know how to do it all so staying open to others teaching you will help you so much.
For me having an understanding of autism in a way that you can only understand if you are autistic. Everyone is different yes, but to understand the sensory overload, the struggle to communicate and process, and be able to educate others on how to help or understand this is probably the most impactful part of my journey.
How would you describe your ideal client?
The clients I am looking for are parents who need support and education on how to help and understand their child on the spectrum. I am looking for driven parents who want to put in the work and are willing to follow through even on the hard days. I am looking for parents who want to see progress and are willing to do what it takes in the time it takes to see that progress; all while taking the time to be patient and understanding with your child. At end of the day I’m just looking for those parents that see their child and not their limits. I can come with all the tools, you just need the hard work and potential is limitless if you meet someone where their at mindset!
