Meet Jenna Howard-Hampton

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jenna Howard-Hampton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

firstName}, thank you so much for agreeing to talk with us about a deeply personal and sensitive topic. Postpartum depression affects so many in the community and hearing from someone who has overcome PPD might help someone who is going through it right now. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience
PPD is quite the unforgiving monster. I struggled with it for what seemed like centuries. My way to cope was to explore new hobbies and find things that I found interesting. I started collecting houseplants and watching them grow, which I love, but it didn’t give me the instant gratification that I knew I needed. I needed an identity and hobby that did not revolve around being a mother (though I love my child more than life itself.) I decided to get back in touch with my crafty side, and that is how I started Little Finn Creations!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hi! My name is Jenna, I’m the face behind Little Finn Creations. I am a mother, wife, avid gardener, animal lover, and of course I have my own small business!

I make custom shirts, cups, accessories, and recently started offering engraved items such as cutting boards and engraved tumblers. I tend to lean toward more earthy designs because most of my inspiration comes to me while my toddler is dragging me around looking for new flowers or interesting bugs. Custom orders are by far my favorite, I love tailoring designs to my customers’ needs! Custom orders also allow me to explore different styles within my work and give me space to grow as a creator!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
•I believe I have grown a lot by thinking “Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.” Sometimes, mistakes can transform something ordinary into something spectacular and even more beautiful. Also, if you never make a mistake, you never truly learn. Allow things to be messy, experiment with your mediums, channel yourself into your work without remorse!

•Ask for help! Even if you’ve been doing something for years, someone else may have a more efficient way to do it. Always ask for input or suggestions regardless. There will always be room for growth even if you think you’ve perfected a process.

•Not everyone is your competition!
Just because someone is in the same business as you, does not mean there should be animosity. Everyone deserves a chance, be nice to the artists that work alongside you.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents are two of the most generous, compassionate human beings on this planet. They instilled an unshakable sense of confidence and spirit in me as a child. Regardless of what I wanted to try, they were standing behind me in support every step of the way. When I was dreaming up Little Finn Creations, my mom was the first one to gift me a Cricut. The support I get from them through all of my endeavors is what every child deserves. They have given me the strength to work hard, the courage to stand tall, and the determination to push through whatever is thrown my way.

My parents have always been a rock for me, and I will forever be beyond grateful that I have them. I love you mom and dad!
