Meet Jenna Mitsdarfer

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jenna Mitsdarfer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jenna, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

I find that the best way to keep your creativity alive is to take a break. So often, people pursuing a creative career get so caught up in producing a great quantity of work that they get burnt out. Stepping back gives you the space to reset, notice things you might’ve overlooked, and return with a clearer perspective. Inspiration usually comes more naturally when you’re not forcing it. Giving yourself permission to pause often makes the work stronger when you come back to it. I also think exploring more than one creative avenue and not boxing yourself into one style helps you stay inspired and connected to what excites you.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m Jenna Mitsdarfer, a photographer specializing in fashion and portraiture. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, I’m currently studying photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Whether it was drawing, painting, or ceramics, I’ve been deeply inspired by the arts my whole life, though photography has become my greatest passion. I’ve had a camera in my hand since I can remember, capturing my friends, family, and the world around me. This hobby grew into an obsession as I explored new genres of the medium, discovering my love for fashion. I’m drawn to fashion photography’s blend of artistry and narrative, allowing me to use color, clothes, and composition to create striking imagery. I find great enjoyment in every stage of photography, from pre-production to retouching, each step allowing me to shape a visual story and connect more deeply with my subjects. I love blurring the lines between commercial and fine art in my work, crafting images with equal artistic and advertising intent. Ultimately, my goal is to create bold, fashion-driven imagery that captures style with clarity and impact.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three of the most impactful qualities in my creative journey, a journey that is very much ongoing, are my ambition, eagerness to learn, and just general people skills! Though these are qualities that are useful in any walk of life, I think they are vital when pursuing a career in a competitive industry, as I am. The best advice I ever personally got was that people are going to want to work with you/hire you if you’re kind and fun to be around. Hard skills are important, but at the end of the day, be a nice person!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

As a photographer shooting fashion, I love collaborating with stylists, designers, and models! I’m always excited by the energy that comes from building something together and seeing everyone’s ideas come to life on set.
