We were lucky to catch up with Jenna Whitmore recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jenna Whitmore , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
For a long time, I felt a little directionless.
As a teenager, I was drawn to so many different things that it was hard to imagine choosing just one path. But looking back now, there was always a common thread—people and creativity.
Whether it was theater, painting, drawing, or music, I found myself constantly returning to spaces where I could create and connect. That never really changed, even as I moved into adulthood.
I naturally gravitated toward roles that allowed me to interact with others—customer service, retail, environments where relationships mattered. I loved people. I loved conversation. But in the quiet moments, I still felt like I hadn’t quite found my thing—something that felt deeply meaningful and fully aligned.
That began to shift when I stepped into a role as a marketing and event coordinator for a local Chamber of Commerce.
For the first time, I was surrounded by small business owners—people who had built something from the ground up, who cared deeply about what they were doing, and who were brave enough to pursue it. I had the opportunity to support them, learn from them, and watch what it looked like to build something with intention.
It changed everything.
I realized I didn’t just admire that kind of work—I wanted it for myself. I wanted to create something meaningful. Something personal. Something that allowed me to use both my creativity and my ability to connect with people.
With a background in marketing and a natural pull toward the arts, I found myself drawn to brand identity—where storytelling, visuals, and strategy all come together.
And from there, photography felt like a natural evolution.
It brought everything into one place:
the creativity I had always loved,
the relationships I valued so deeply,
and the ever-changing, dynamic nature of meaningful work.
Today, I can confidently say this is the most fulfilling and enjoyable work I’ve ever done.
Not just because of the images—but because of the people, the stories, and the trust that comes with being invited into such meaningful moments.
And that’s something I will never take for granted.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I create intentional, story-driven imagery for people and brands who value connection, meaning, and authenticity.
What I do goes far beyond taking photos—it’s about helping people feel seen, confident, and fully themselves in front of the camera, while preserving moments that are deeply personal and fleeting.
I do this because I believe the most meaningful images aren’t just beautiful—they’re felt. They hold emotion, tell a story, and become part of how we remember the most important seasons of our lives.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For me, it really comes down to three things: connection, intention, and the ability to lead with calm confidence.
First and foremost, connection is everything. My ability to quickly build trust and make people feel comfortable allows me to capture moments that feel genuine and true—not forced or overly posed.
Second is creative direction and storytelling. It’s not just about taking beautiful images, but about understanding how to use light, movement, and emotion to tell a cohesive story that reflects who you are and what this season means.
And lastly, the ability to lead and adapt. Wedding days are fast-paced and ever-changing, and my role is to bring a sense of calm, keep things moving smoothly, and adjust as needed—so you can stay present and fully enjoy your day.
Those three things together are what create not just beautiful photos, but a meaningful and seamless experience.
My advice for anyone just starting or thinking about starting their journey? Just go for it. You can wait a lifetime for the “right time”, but until you just take the risk and do it, you are always going to feel like it’s not the best idea. There’s no room for comparison when you are following your passion. It doesn’t matter what you and tried in the past and potentially failed at, that should never stop you from continuing to dream and build a life from what you love.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I do so much work in the health and wellness world right now, specially with food and fitness. I work with multiple brands and restaurants that are promoting a healthy lifestyle built on what you put IN your body, not on it. That resonates with me so deeply, and I find I do my best work when I am invested in the brands I represent. That being said, I am always open to collaborating with wellness brands – food, fitness, lifestyle, skincare, magazines. If our values align and you have a brand/product that needs visual identity, I want to collab with you.
